    Garage workshop - 16A socket

Setting up a small workhop in my garage, which already has a couple of standard 13A sockets. I've bought a planer thicknesser which requires a 16A supply and type C breaker. Is it possible to just take a feed from a 13A socket to a 16A socket and replace the breaker with a type C? Or will it...

Water ingress between concrete slab and blockwork

Thanks. Yes you're right, the concrete base is exposed and there's no eaves or gutter. I neglected to put a DPM down. The top of the base is higher than the surrounding ground level though so I guess what I could do is take a grinder to the exposed part of the concrete slab and just chamfer it...

Water ingress between concrete slab and blockwork

Built a shed over the summer. Concrete slab and then 3 course of blocks (rest was timber framed). The exterior of the blocks was clad with a slate cladding left over from another project. Just noticed I have water seeping into the shed floor after all the rain we've had these past few days. It...

    Basement garage flooding problem

Thanks for the replies. A "basin" is exactly what we have - sloping driveway and to the right hand side of the garage, the garden has a slight slope towards the side wall of the garage, where there is also a side door into the garage. I recently laid some paving slabs down this side and I'm...

    Basement garage flooding problem

I've got a basement garage with a Hormann door. We've had two flash floods in two years, the last one the other day resulted in about an inch of water in the garage. We were away when it happened so couldn't do anything about it. We have a drainage channel outside the garage door but I think...

    2 way motorised valve problem

Just out of interest, finally diagnosed the problem as a non-return valve that had got stuck.

    2 way motorised valve problem

Then I get hotter pipe out of the valve to the downstairs rads, but no heat in the rads

    2 way motorised valve problem

The pump seems to be working fine. As I say, upstairs rads heating up. Just noticed that now I have turned upstairs heating on, the pipe out of the valve to the downstairs rads has now cooled down but valve is still manually open. Which I don't understand as surely if its pumping to upstairs...

    2 way motorised valve problem

Ha! Upstairs heating is on fine, hot water fine. Are you suggesting a frozen pipe? I noticed a problem with it yesterday evening but it wasn't freezing outside by that point. Ice on the car this morning though. But I haven't had the rads off for decorating!

Not sure. How do I check this?

    2 way motorised valve problem

Yes. I can feel hot water flowing through the pipe after the valve. But that hot water isn't reaching the first radiator. Thoroughly confused now!

    2 way motorised valve problem

The feed going to the valve from the boiler is boiling hot, but after the valve, it's cold. Suggesting that the valve hasn't opened? But I don't understand why as I can see gear mechanism moving to open the valve and I've manually moved the valve spindle with my hand and it seems fine.

    2 way motorised valve problem

We have three 2-way valves in our system - one each for hot water, upstairs heating and downstairs heating. Noticed that the downstairs heating not working and narrowed it down to the valve. I've bought a new motor from screwfix, which has made no difference. I've then changed the entire...

Plasterboard under stairs - building regs?

So it needs to be skimmed as well to meet building regs?

Plasterboard under stairs - building regs?

Hi John Thanks for your reply. Yes there is a firedoor at the bottom of the stairs. That's what I was wondering whether building control had any regulations regarding the staircase. I couldn't find any mention of it on my building reg plans and I'm waiting for building control to get back to me...
