    Concrete slab DPM

I have just had a concrete slab laid with a DPM for a log cabin. I would like opinions as to where to trim the DPM at the sides. Hopefully the attached drawing makes it easier to understand. I obviously do not want the DPM to extend past point A or it will be visible. I am uncertain where to cut...

Leaking bottom fill on toilet cistern

Just fitted a new WC all ok except for a leaking bottom fill connection. It is a Fluidmaster fill valve usual 1/2 inch connector. The leak occurs from between the base of the cistern and the plastic nut, not between the nut and the thread of the valve. It was supplied with a flat washer to be...

    Cushion vinyl flooring

Need to affix some cushion floor vinyl to a chipboard floor. Was thinking of undiluted PVA adhesive or the epoxy glue that comes in an aerosol. Any other suggestions gratefully received.

    Sink waste size

Fitting a new kitchen sink for my daughter. Got from B&Q is one of these composite things. Apart from having to knock out the hole for tap, with trepidation my main concern is the waste size. The hole in the sink is 110mm are wastes of this size readily available. B&Q website and staff useless...

    Chipboard flooring

Hi Thanks for taking the time to reply. Having wandered around the net trying to obtain answers I think the plasterboard also acts as an acoustic barrier as well as a fire barrier as you suggest. As it is impossible to obtain the older type chipboard which happens to be 20mm thick, yes neither...

    Chipboard flooring

Yes is T@G but shaped totally differently to normal T@G chipboard flooring as can be seen in photo 1 with the odd size having a sloped T@G. Also photo 2 shows how the chipboard sits on plasterboard which itself is sitting on fibreglass batts. An odd setup but funnily enough another guy had...

    Chipboard flooring

Having intended to replace some flooring in a daughter's bathroom have come up against a problem. Namely instead of the chipboard flooring being 600mm wide it is 580mm wide ! Never come across this before. Property is around 20 years old so no reason, in my opinion, for this odd size. Anybody...

Never said they were water softeners. By your answer I presume you have never used one!

    Heating needs a rethink

Not really sure which coil you mean. As I said before the water in the coil from the boiler, which heats the constant mass of water in the store, is irrelevant as it it the same treated water that might next time around go through a radiator. If you are talking heat exchanger bank yes some will...

    Heating needs a rethink

No the DHW passes through the heat exchanger which in turn is heated by the same volume of water in the thermal store which is put there on day one. As it only passes through the heat exchanger on usage the electronic scale inhibitor works fine. This is my reason for not wanting a system like a...

    Heating needs a rethink

Maybe slightly but as the inside of the coil is only carrying boiler water already treated and the outside will be sitting inside the thermal store surrounded by the same water for ever which will again have been treated the problem is minimised. I had the same setup ie thermal store with an...

    Heating needs a rethink

Been nosing in this forum for years but as I need advice now signed up. Bit of a long winded scenario but will try to keep it brief. Recently moved into a 5 bed cottage with radiators on both floors. The boiler is an old oil fired job situated in an outbuilding some 20m from where the hot water...
