Garage floor slab Problems - very dusy.

Hi, Looking at a quick easy way to sort out my garage floor (thick slab over DPC). Unfortunately, not sure what mix they used but it appears as if the lime is coming out of the mix creating absolutely loads of dust! I have tried sweeping it, but unfortunately, sweeping is actually creating as...

DIY is not an electrician. No sir, not at all...

I have been done for speeding before. Sure I can deal with reg 12. Besides, it was enacted by a socialist government that is(are thank god) no longer in power. If I can now shoot a burglar (as it seems) under the new powers that be under civil rights, I bet I can get away with a rewire!

Thats exactly why I wired using this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100m-Length-2-5mm-Twin-and-Earth-Black-and-Red-Grey-Cable-/150670844072?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Components_Supplies_ET&hash=item2314aea0a8

DIY is not an electrician. No sir, not at all...

And rightly so. We all have to take responsibility for our actions. I wouldnt have rewired my own place if I wasnt 100% satisified the job was safe. I spend considerable amounts of time outside of the country (airline pilot) and could do without the lack of sleep due to worry of my wife zapping...

DIY is not an electrician. No sir, not at all...

This is another point. If the DIYer meets all relevant British standards, what law has been broken? I wouldnt call part Pi$$ in respect to the requirement to notify worth of the paper its written on. If someone shoves their wet fingers into a power socket or light fitting that I installed...

DIY is not an electrician. No sir, not at all...

You have your opinions BAS. I have mine. try to see things in a different light. Much of the protectionism I read on here seems to hark back to sparks making out their trade is a black art to prevent 1) loss of trade 2) undercutting their daily rate. I can fully understand that, doesnt...

DIY is not an electrician. No sir, not at all...

Want to tell me what "laws" have been broken if an individual completes so called "notifiable" work to all the required buildings regulations? Besides, want to tell me how many DIYers have been prosecuted for completing notifiable works? A law that isnt enforced is not a law in my view. the...

    Large window boards in Oak

One quick question, if I were to try and manufacture these myself, using a router or biccy cutter, what is the maximum width of each board to prevent warping once the boards are in place? I was thinking for up to 300mm width, 2X150mm wide boards will do, or would it be best going for 3...

Routing of ensuite drains (shower and basin)

Unfortunately not. The clown that lived at the house before me started again from scratch and completely changed the layout of the upstairs, ripped out all the old stud walls and effectively moved the main bedroom from one side of the house to the other. Problem was, none of the floor joists ran...

Routing of ensuite drains (shower and basin)

Hi all, need a bit of advice in routing of our drain from our ensuite to the foul drain, which is, per usual, on the other side of the house. I have 2 options. 1) Sanishower pump through roof space. I personally am not a fan of this option, as I have heard they can be an absolute b*gger...

Time limit and scope of notified work

How about you just dont bother? I dont see many people getting "done" for not notifying? Seems like a job creation scheme for local trade. If they want to inspect, they are more than welcome. I wont be paying them for the priveledge.

Who actually bothers with PIRs? Also earth bonding

Had one done just after I did a DIY rewire. Spark asked which local electrician I had used, said he had done a fantastic job. :D

    Large window boards in Oak

Hi, I am about to order planed oak boards to use as window boards. I am ordering them from here: www.venbros.co.uk/ The plan is to finish (sand, router edge and oil) the planed boards, then countersink screw them down to solid walls. a few of the boards are over 9" deep (largest is...

    Nice kitchen wiring! (pics)

Looks like my house did till I did a DIY rewire. Spark who carried out the periodic said it was the best wiring job he had seen in a while 8) course, I had a lot longer to clip back and lift floorboards than your average spark would to be fair.

    Layout of Bathroom downlighing

How are you going to prove I am not? I am guessing a Masters in Electrical and aerospace avionics engineering should cover it? But then again, blunty from down the council will probably argue thats not enough. Why would I want to bother?
