    extension price per sq/m

Thanks,i've noticed that materials have gone up, and yet we have had to bring our prices down to kep in work. I blame the bigger companies who are "buyinh in" work to keep people employed. Mortar will not set

are your bricks bone dry when using them?if they are they could be absorbing the moisture from the cement too quickly, thus they dont "bond" together, try dipping the bricks in a bucket of water for a few seconds each before you use them

    6" too deep?

i think buidling inspectors must have diferent views all over the country and work to what they feel like i poured a new conc floor for an extension a few weeks ago and they only insisted on 100mm with 25mm perimeter, same for another one this week seems strange they want in a grage though.

    lead valleys

ive read somewhere that the lead should sit directly onto the valley board with no felt under it? someone also suggested nailing a cement board on top of the lead valley to help when bedding the tiles, but this seems to defeat the object as you would be nailing through the lead?

    Brickwork expansion joints

from what ive learned in the past and confirmed by building inspectors, you should be ok in placing the expansion joint inline with where the upstairs part is going to be if this is anew build as you say, then your local inspectoe should be able to offer advice,if not,hes not doing his job properly

    buying brick

just remember, if using 73mm bricks allow 50 per sq/m also, the most important thing in my opinion as a bricklayer for the past 24years is that they match in with the exisitng as much as possible, its worth paying that bit extra for something that is the same/doesnt look too different

    Garage Conversion

Have you ever laid bricks before? If you are bricking up the opening then the easiest method is to string a line across the brick coarses, easy as that,i'd chop out the halfs(called toothing out) so that in time the new will blend in more As for air bricks, have you got to venitlate an...
