No, the red on it's own will probably be your live to your light. The blacks will be your Neutral. By that picture it doesn't look like you have an earth cable. Is it only red and black cables up there, no uninsulated singe copper wires or green & yellow?

Under the white tape is there a connector block? If so can you disconnect the loops that were going to your light from that block and replace with new to your new light fitting, presuming the cables coming through the wall aren't damaged.

I did mine at Stow College in Glasgow.

Hi, I need to replace a T5 ballast which controls 2 x 45w T5 lamps. These are for aquarium lamps so they are an odd size from the norm. Would a 2 x 49w ballast be ok with a difference of 4watts? Was also thinking of wiring the 2 lamps individually with 1 x 49w ballasts, just what ever worked...

I received my free sample today, had to pay a surcharge at the post office for it as the 2nd class stamp didn't cover the postage :lol:

Right, ballast arrived but there's no diagram for the lamp I'm using. The lamp holder originally was connected with 2 cables from a PCB so cant copy the wiring from that. Any advice on how to connect it up correctly, I don't want to break it :lol: Thanks.

Can you post pictures up of the connections at Shower, switch and Consumer unit (fusebox). Hard to tell without more info, could be anything really.

Hi, does anyone know anywhere that I can get an electronic ballast for 9w PL-S 4 pin lamp. I've tried ebay and googled it but only available ones seem to be from china. It's just for a small fish tank so not wanting to pay over the odds. Lamp in question :- Thanks

Just an update to put this to bed. BT/Openreach came out and rectified the installation FOC, a worker and his supervisor (who took pictures) rerouted the cable outside the flat so it was concealed, also sorted the cable going through the doors. 2 decent blokes that took a bit of pride in their...
