New domestic heating system design advice

Thanks Tony. It's certainly adequate for my shower at present, but sounds like it won't be if we decide to get those fancy large shower heads. And don't worry, I'll be getting someone in to start doing some proper testing of what we have so we can get a decent system designed.

New domestic heating system design advice

And forget to say - did a quick test last night and I estimate the flow rate from my taps to be around 15 litres/min. From reading other threads on here that seems to be perfectly adequate?

New domestic heating system design advice

Lots of useful info here guys, thanks very much. I'll take the Which Local suggestion and see who I can find there. If anyone has any good recommendations for North West London (NW6), feel free to fire away! Thanks again.

New domestic heating system design advice

Points well taken Alec! But i think people often forget that those with little knowledge (eg me) simply don't have the time to go into masses of detail - you have to rely on those doing the job to a significant extent. And while I agree the ideal scenario would be to pick each specialist...

New domestic heating system design advice

Thanks Alec. I'll be going into all the specifics with the builders before signing anything, at least I know their initial suggestion is incorrect. I'll find out what plumbing company they use and see if they're any good.

New domestic heating system design advice

Tony - let me re-phrase: the flow-rate out of the taps is higher upstairs than downstairs. No idea what kind of condition the pipes are in, but given they are being replaced, that's not relevant. Pressure and flow rate obviously is, and I guess I need to figure that out first. The home...

New domestic heating system design advice

Thanks, Dan. This is where the probs start I'm afraid! Because everything is being re-done pretty much from scratch, I can't really give you many specifics. It's ground and lower ground floor, and for what it's worth, I'd say the water pressure is pretty good. It's higher upstairs than down...

New domestic heating system design advice

Sorry, I should probably add that it's a Victorian conversion, but most of it will be double glazed. Ceiling height is, on average, probably around 2.5m. It will also be insulated to Part L compliance, as far as the building structure allows. Radiators will be Myson. Probably about 10 in...

New domestic heating system design advice

Hi all, I'm hoping for some help! I'm in the final stages of planning a flat refurb in London, and I've asked the building companies I've tendered to to design the heating system for me. The flat setup will be as follows: Split level, 200sqm (2100 sqft) total. 4 bed, 3 bathrooms and one wc...

Please help with dimmable lighting - argh!

Thank you to all, lots of very very useful info for me to look through. The reason our architect has suggested recessed spotlights (which we have now) is that the ceilings aren't particularly high, so anything that "hangs" from the ceiling isn't going to work. Not enough space for wall...

Please help with dimmable lighting - argh!

I'm going a little crazy here, so hopefully can put me straight. Planning a house refurb, and just picking the downlights we want. Dimmable is very important for me, but my understanding was that it is the bulb, not the fitting, that determines whether a light is dimmable or not. But looking...

Leaking gutter - water penetrated through brickwork

Hello all, hope this was the right place to put this.... The gutter on the 2nd floor of our building was leaking heavily for a while, and the water was splashing off the brickwork outside one of the rooms of our groundfloor flat. We've now fixed the gutter, but the water has obviously...

DSC/BG Default Installer code/remote reset & allowed acc

Thanks Alarm. Not at home until Sat, so will try it then. Mine's the DSC 1832 so I guess I'll have to try both. Just a thought though - these methods seem to be for resetting it all to factory default, which presumably will only work if it's not locked. If it is locked, and I follow this...

DSC/BG Default Installer code/remote reset & allowed acc

The fact that I don't know what the jumper is suggests not.....I'm just unplugging the back-up battery and the AC wire, and re-connecting, battery first followed by AC. I thought this was all I needed to do in order to check if the system was locked, but I take it I'm wrong? Mark

DSC/BG Default Installer code/remote reset & allowed acc

Hey guys, some additional info in case it’s useful. With the keypad showing '24003479 V1.11 ENG L50' none of my key presses are registered, it doesn’t do anything. I tried powering down again (as before). The first time the keypad display showed empty time and date fields, but as soon as I...

Thanks Alarm, that's very kind of you, much appreciated.

DSC/BG Default Installer code/remote reset & allowed acc

Right, I tested to see if it was locked yesterday - disconnected one wire from the backup battery and disconnected one of the main AC wires from inside the panel (leaving a reasonably quiet wailing siren), waited 30 secs, before reconnecting the backup battery followed by the AC. I didn't...

DSC/BG Default Installer code/remote reset & allowed acc

Noted Alarm, thanks again. Don't worry, I have no intention on playing around with the connections unless I'm 100% sure of what I'm doing.

DSC/BG Default Installer code/remote reset & allowed acc

Thanks to all for the helpful comments, much appreciated. I tired powering down the panel a couple of days ago (before I saw these posts), but don't think I was able to do it - I unplugged one of the main wires from the backup battery but couldn't find the transformer to unplug that. I'll try...

DSC/BG Default Installer code/remote reset & allowed acc

Thanks Alarm. Looks like the (same) panel costs £80 or so, and I guess I'd have to all the programming myself. If BG are required, upon my request, to change the codes to what I want them to be and to enable the panel for full "user reset", I'm guessing that's prob a better option...?
