Leaking gutter - water penetrated through brickwork

Hello all, hope this was the right place to put this....

The gutter on the 2nd floor of our building was leaking heavily for a while, and the water was splashing off the brickwork outside one of the rooms of our groundfloor flat. We've now fixed the gutter, but the water has obviously penetrated the brickwork and it's now damp on the inside of the room (you can see bubbling of the paint/plaster). The dampness can be seen just above the skirting board (so less than a foot off the ground). I've got one of those cheap and cheerful damp/moisture meters that hits 100% further up the wall as well (maybe 5 or 6 feet up), quite possibly at the same height at which the water from the leaking gutter was first hitting the wall in its way down.

Could anyone provide any advice as to whether the wall will dry by itself over time without lasting damage, or whether it needs extra work/damproofing etc? Any ideas would be much appreciated.

As long as the gutter has been fixed then it will dry out. You will need to ventilate the room.

You can get a dehumiderfier in to speed things up.

The wall will dry, but the dampness may bring salts to the plaster surface with make it absorb moisture from the air in the future and it may always appear damp

If so, it will need replastering and the wall sealing first
