Help!!! No heating after changing rad valve

Well, funny you say that but you were spot on! There are two single-port valves. I took the CH actuator off and the spindle underneath couldn't be turned by hand! Unfortunately, I can't say for 100% whether the valve was open or closed when I took off the actuator but certainliny as soon as I...

Help!!! No heating after changing rad valve

No I didn't tie up the inlet so if I open the valve at the radiator new water pours in. Really don't know what to do and I image calling out a plumber on Sat night ain't going to be cheap. :(

Help!!! No heating after changing rad valve

Ok, I've got a bit further. The valve near the boiler was stuck - I unscrewed it all the way and took out the nut and the plug was still stuck down - bone dry. I've now put the system on for 10 minutes, and when I open the valve near the rad I was originally trying to replace, the water is...

Help!!! No heating after changing rad valve

Could it be that an airlock just a bit further away from the drain valve on the boiler is stopping water coming out? ALthough suspcious that the drain valve would be totally dry. I really don't know what else to try?

Help!!! No heating after changing rad valve

Yes systme was working before hand and I'm getting water out of most of the radiators (the ones with working bleed valves!). I tried draining from the radiator whose valve I was replacing and got about a bucket out but haven't tried draining more than that.

Help!!! No heating after changing rad valve

MAny thanks for the replies. Im pretty sure it is an airlock now because there is a drain valve on the return pipe to the boiler. When I open it nothing comes out! The valve looks in reasonable condition and turns faily easily so guessing there is no water in there? I've opened the pump...

Help!!! No heating after changing rad valve

HI I bunged CH supply from FE tank and also the vent. THen I took the old valve off the rad and the water flowed out of the radiator. There was only a cupfull from the pipe side of the valve. THen I went upstairs and removed the speedfit cap on the vent pipe and unbunged the FE tank. (I'm...

Help!!! No heating after changing rad valve

Now I've truly gone and screwed things up in this house. Replaced a lockshield valve on an upstaris rad using the "bung/vacuum" method. When I remove bungs from two pipes in F+E and turned heating back on the pump appears not to be able to push the water around. I think there might be an...

    Intermittent problem with motorised valve

I replaced the actuator to a BG branded MV a couple of weeks back since it was stuck open and I thought that had solved the problem. Its a on/off vale controlling HW only. Most of the time, it works as expected, opening/closing the valve and switching on the pump etc dictated by the HW stat...

Where to buy a pipe bung

Thanks I found this one (link below) - is that one of the two? What are the advantages/disadvantages? I'd buy from you but unlikely you're in my area. http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Hand+Tools/Plumbers+Tools/Radiator+Valve+Change+Kit/d10/sd210/p31768 Also re bluetack isn't there a...

Where to buy a pipe bung

Does anyone know where I can buy bungs for the FE header tank 15mm feed and 22mm expansion pipe? Lots of threads around but all the links are old and now broken. Was hoping I could buy them tomorrow so not having to wait for internet delivery etc.

    Extension Ladder Duty Ratings

I need to buy a better ladder than the one I have since its not quite tall enough and also doesn't feel particularly stable when fully extended. (It wobbles/flexes as I get to the higher rungs which scares me a bit). I've read around and I understand that there are 3 duty ratings - I'm sure...

Water pouring out of inside mains stopcock !

Hi Just to say I "fixed" the problem by leaving the original stopcock in situ and fitting a new 15 stopcock downstream. However, the alakthene pipe part of the original stopcock is weaping very, very slightly. About 1 drop per 2 hours. So to do a proper job in the future I'm thinking of...

Water pouring out of inside mains stopcock !

So I should be able to get the 20mm olive on the 21mm pipe? Perhaps with lots of wd40 ?

Water pouring out of inside mains stopcock !

Thanks Spraggo. I guess I'll need to remove the old olive and nut from the pipe? Maybe if I can't fit the 20mm olive over the pipe I should put the 22mm olive (from the other stopcock I have) into the 20mm stopcock ? Or perhaps sand down a bit the pipe ? Sorry for all these seemingly daft...

Water pouring out of inside mains stopcock !

Unfortunately, there isn't any writing on the bit of the pipe that is visible. Can I reuse the old insert ? And I take it there is no way either a 20mm stopcock or 22mm isolating valve (both of which I've got) will fit ? The diameter is about 21mm. I'm just afraid about how long it will...

Water pouring out of inside mains stopcock !

Will I need an insert also or is it likely to be strong enough? Or perhaps when I get it off I will see if an insert was previously used?
