Sticky residue from vinyl floor tiles

You don't say if you have a concrete subfloor or, chipboard/ floorboards.I'm guessing it's concrete coz of the 'black' adhesive. If I'm correct your flooring guy will have to lay some self-levelling screed in preparation for the top covering. If it is a timber subfloor just lay plywood over it...

    Floating engineered Oak - 3mm in 3m??

Well you must be brave, and you are correct the 3mm / 3m referred to is regarding undulations. If, as the OP states the floor is flat, but subject to a 22mm "run" then there should be no problem.I am in no doubt however that Karin will have the last word on this though. mack

    Edging Sander? Will it do?

Look at whats on offer from HSS you may be better hiring one of the upright orbital action sanders,if the boards are very uneven, the edge sander with a coarse paper will make short work of flattening them,it's an aggressive little beast. Then use the bigger machine to finish, with finer papers. mack

laminate flooring up to curved bay window

[/url] If it's an older property chances are there will be nails through the skirting into the floor. So if you go the way "big-all" suggests get a few, "bi-metallic" blades. mack

    HardWaxOil on filled floorboards?

To sort boards which are feathering/splintering,I would apply some cyanoacrylate glue give it some time to penetrate as deeply as possible then spray the activator on it, you can hold it down with a chisel.Do it before the final sanding. mack

    fitting reclaimed parquet

If this is reclaimed mosaic, your'e best method would be to start in the centre,as pointed out by WYL.This way you will halve your error margin, and you will have one!We uplifted & relaid 14 classrooms of 9"x 1",some years ago,we gave the back of the fingers a cursory scrape and restuck back down...

Are you refering to loose tounges? Different terms, different places, but yes where we say 'slipfeather' you say 'loose tongues' or tounges.(only kidding)In fact one side only is glued,we would rip them from whatever thickness of ply is suitable. mack

    Laying reclaimed parquet flooring

Try F.Ball's F21,it's a wood block adhesive with bitumen/rubber properties, which will be ideal for your purpose and it's non-flammable.It is a 'dipping' adhesive, which means the adh.is poured into a plastic basin, the base of the block is dipped in and put into place.Trowelled adh. can turn into...

    tips on sanding floor

It really depends on how badly the previous sanding has marked the boards..Using the coarsest paper 1st, sand the scratches/lines from the previous attempt out then on to the next and so on.You will use a lot of the coarse, less of the medium and less again of the fine.Remember to empty the...

    tips on sanding floor

Well now you know. The flooring "has" to be finish sanded in the same direction as the woodgrain, but because your hallway is laid the wrong way for sanding, you will have to hire an orbital action sander. Most hire shops will have these, not to be confused with small hand held sanders though.Start...

    Can parquet floor be painted?

At least you managed to spell it right.I'm an old parquet layer (40 years man&boy) The answer is YES you can paint parquet I've been asked to do so a few times. You must remove all traces of varnish, paint, grease, dirt by either sanding (my preference)or with solvent. Then choose whether oil or...

    Laminate flooring

Click flooring is fine as long as you don't have to fit it round door frames. If you have to take it through a door that is parallel to your floor it is easier to cut it where the door closes and fit a cover/threshold,bar,then carry on laying.Pergo and Quickstep are two good makes.

    flooring question

I have seen the results of cowboys or people who don't know any better, tiling straight onto chipboard, it has been a costly mistake. The worst was where a very expensive tile had been laid directly on top of chip board, around each board the tile had cracked, showing each individual board.Costly...

Removal of adhesive from floorboards before sanding

If you are having chest pains, its probably caused by the fumes, when you heated the tiles. The masks that are supplied are as much good as a chocolate frying pan! I would persevere with the roughest sandpaper, and forget using any kind of solvent. It sounds as if you have done enough damage to...
