fitting reclaimed parquet

i have 10m2 of reclaimed parquet fingers to lay in basket weave.
what is the best method of fitting so that it comes out as tight as possible.
do i use clamps? if so how much do i lay to begin with before clamping and do i weight it down somehow to avoid it lifting up? i am concerned that laying it one finger at a time its not going to come out as neat as the existing which came in sheets originally. also do i baton out the centre of the room and start there? i hope somebody has the answers as i have searched the internet for advice on this and found nothing! cheers.

do they still have bitumen attached?
How long, wide and thick are they?

The finger mosaic only comes in tiles when they are brand new, to keep the pattern intact as best as possible during installation. But even then you have to make sure they are tight together, the backing doesn't do that for you.

As soon as you come back with answers to the above questions we can give you some pointers on how to proceed best.

The bitumen has been removed. They are 115mm long, 28mm wide and 10mm thick.

they are more like 15-20mm thick.

If all bitumen is removed you can use F.Ball B92 or Mapei P990 P as adhesive, applied with a notched trowel. What type of underfloor do you have? Both concrete (level in in good condition) or plywood will give you a firm base to install on.
If chipboard (modern moist-repellent chipboard) you'll have to overboard with plywood first - no modern adhesive will bond with this chipboard.

115 /4 = 28.75mm or 28 x 4 = 112mm. Presumably you measurements were not exact. If they were exact you'll have a problem with the pattern.

As for where to start, you could indeed determine the middle of the room (both lines) and start from there, or because of the mosaic pattern, starts at any straight wall.
Do check if all walls are straight, but in many cases one or two will be slightly "off". Again, with this pattern not much to worry over.

If this is reclaimed mosaic,your'e best method would be to start in the centre,as pointed out by WYL.This way you will halve your error margin,and you will have one!We uplifted & relaid 14 classrooms of 9"x 1",some years ago,we gave the back of the fingers a cursory scrape and restuck back down with a bitumen based adhesive.Never paid too much attention to the screeded subfloor either.The sanding was an absolute nightmare,but we finished well within deadline (summer break) 2 of us and an apprentice.The only time anyone's been back was to re-varnish.
