mega electric usage at new house... doesn't seem right.

I'm now wondering if the PIRs are simply coming on all the time and we're not realising. You can't see from inside, and a road does run right past the house. If it's a 500w halogen flood light with a 300w reflector backed onto it, well that would be running up a bit. It still might not explain...

mega electric usage at new house... doesn't seem right.

It looks to me like it's the PIR floodlights, since they are the only other thing that I can see being fed from the loft circuit, but why they would be consuming 3A when not illuminated is a bit beyond me. From what I can see, there are two PIR halogen floodlights, one on each side of the...

mega electric usage at new house... doesn't seem right.

The tank think in the loft seems to be a disused water storage tank with a float valve. another video just uploading to youtube now..

I'll go and have a proper look. I thought immersion heaters were upright cylinders ? This could be one that's been boxed-in.

Something interesting going on with the breaker labelled 'loft power'. 700 - 900watts if the clamp meter (and my usage of it!) is to be believed. The only other thing I can remember seeing up there is a satellite booster or multiplexer or something. The previous owner liked his Sky TV!. That's...

mega electric usage at new house... doesn't seem right.

The lighting is inefficient, and this room that I am in for ~10 hours most days is on a 100w incandescent. I am still trying to find the right thing to change it to. The ceilings are low, so am looking for a flush-ish LED that's very bright but ideally RF controlled dimmable and colour...

mega electric usage at new house... doesn't seem right.

That could also explain why the main/old bathroom shower is blistering hot, while the newer en-suite shower seems to more closely reflect the heat output that I would expect from the Heatslave oil-combi.

This one definitely says p, but I will try to observe it a bit closely later tonight.

mega electric usage at new house... doesn't seem right.

Good shout, I'm not sure. There is one in the loft but I thought it wasn't used anymore. The guy said it was there if we wanted to get it kicked back in though. Hmmm. I have one of those clamp-type multimeters. I can't remember if I can measure AC current with that by just putting the clamp...

mega electric usage at new house... doesn't seem right.

Hi. We've moved in to a new house pretty much exactly 30 days ago. I had my own semi before, and girlfriend had her own mid-terrace. We're now in a detached cottagey thing in Kelsall. At my house previously, my electric was around £35 - £40 per month and gas was the same. At my girlfriends, it...

    Heatslave 25/32 CH too hot

Good question. It doesn't actually tell me. I remember my Vokera did have a readout, but this one doesn't. When we have done some more unboxing and I have found my thermometer, I'll check the temperature. FYI here is the front panel, and also some numbers and info from a recent service /...

    Heatslave 25/32 CH too hot

Hi. There is a room stat but it's near the front door in what I would say might be the coldest part of the house. It does work and does do its job. I'm not sure if it being in the hallway close to the front door is a good or bad thing though. It's just that I thought I should be able to control...

    Heatslave 25/32 CH too hot

Thanks for the proper explanation of the storage tank. I couldn't do the DV/radiator check last night because we had the CH on already. I have checked this morning, and no, the radiators don't get hot or warm up with the CH off. This is with the HW set to 'on' all night (which I believe means it...

    Heatslave 25/32 CH too hot

I'm not sure on the diverter. I will check. I have some experience of broken diverter valves, from the Vokera Linea 24 at my old house. This does seem like the thermostat or thermistor (whatever the boiler has) problem, or possibly some kind of burner calibration thing maybe? It was recently...

    Heatslave 25/32 CH too hot

Just moved in. Have a Heatslave 25/32. Even with the CH temperature dial on the boiler set all the way down, the radiators are just too hot. I have had to turn down a lot of the TRVs on the rads, and even then the house just gets sweltering. This is a detached cottage on a hill and to be...

Henderson 880 Deluxe Garage Door openener. Main travel adjust?

Ignore the above. It was simply a limit switch after all. The thing that I saw that isn't 'connected', seems to be a mechanical dis-engage for the screw-drive, to allow you to open the door by hand I think. On the other side there was a limit switch, and now my garage closes properly. Yay. For...

Henderson 880 Deluxe Garage Door openener. Main travel adjust?

Hi. Unsure of correct forum. Windows and Doors ? Just moved house. the garage door has an electric screw-type Henderson 880 Deluxe. It's an up and over door. The door didn't close all the way. This was due to a bump in some concrete that had been placed around an inspection cover outside the...

Recommendations for easiest way to get curve on L-shaped corner desk

This is what I've currently arrived at. This is 1900mm on the long side, and then 3 lots of 600mm wide on the narrower side. It keeps all the grains in check, and the size suits me. However I'm concerned about the sharp/thin pointy edge. I guess this is where you would mitre the join?

do you have to clamp off the brake hose when changing pads???

No that would only be when replacing a faulty caliper, and even then, it's not recommended due to potential damage to the hose reinforcement.

Recommendations for easiest way to get curve on L-shaped corner desk

It sounds like you are speaking the language I want to hear, and I have been looking at worktop express for my worktops. If only their online cutting-tool allowed ~600mm radius cuts. However I don't fully understand what you're describing. 2 straight lengths, like in both my CAD pictures above...
