AC series-wiring special dimmer switch/remote control, but lights no longer come on

Hmmm, yeah. Erm not a tumble drier as such. I have a washer drier - the condensing type or whatever they call them. It doesn't use much power to dry. 1.6Kw when drying

AC series-wiring special dimmer switch/remote control, but lights no longer come on

Thankfully no electric heaters, and the cooker isn't switched by either of those on the left, but I take your point all the same. it is dinky cable for all those mains sockets. Going back to the disaster that is the upstairs wiring, I'm going to try to shift the multi gym another day, and lift...

AC series-wiring special dimmer switch/remote control, but lights no longer come on

Those on the left.. the top white/grey 30A MBC seems to run the kitchen mains sockets. The one below seems to run all the other plug sockets in the house, except the conservatory. That's from a quick on/off test anyway. With it being my first house and on my own, money was tight so I had the...

Oh the irony.. my dad bought me that book..

AC series-wiring special dimmer switch/remote control, but lights no longer come on

Well, I did query the tingle.. My dad didn't think he could feel it. But then he can never hear whistles whines and rattles either! What you've written there is very fair and I take it on board and appreciate it actually. If I can find a known honest / trustworthy electrician then I'll get...

AC series-wiring special dimmer switch/remote control, but lights no longer come on

It was a slight tingle. I presumed it was leakage from the twin+earth (red/red/earth) that feeds the lightswitch. I could feel it just before on the earth of that cable until I reconnected the earths. I've always felt a slight buzz on the metal dimmer switch face but it was hard to tell if it...

AC series-wiring special dimmer switch/remote control, but lights no longer come on

I touched the earth wire on the switch cable (red/red/bare), and I felt what felt like about 50v. I joined the earths as I thought they should be, and now it feels OK. My understanding is that the current takes the best path to earth, which is now not via me. LOL I can see how this might seem...

AC series-wiring special dimmer switch/remote control, but lights no longer come on

Are you being serious? This isn't my wiring. This is the first time I've seen it since buying the house. Surely the earth feed to my metal back-box should actually be connected to the other earth up there rather than just hanging loose. As you can see they are not connected. I have always felt...

AC series-wiring special dimmer switch/remote control, but lights no longer come on

and yes I now see that my backbox isn't earthed. I wonder if that's why I feel a slight buzz/tingle from it ?

AC series-wiring special dimmer switch/remote control, but lights no longer come on

OK that's all rock 'n' roll. I found the wires, made the hole bigger and fished it into the room above. I know what I'm doing now. the double-red cable is my switch feed, then I've got black neutral and red live on the other cable. So I should be able to sort that. Thanks for the help. That...

AC series-wiring special dimmer switch/remote control, but lights no longer come on

I've just found what would be the rose, with a bore-scope thingy, and thankfully, it's not a rose! it's just wires dropped through a hole in the ceiling, which will be accessible from the subfloor in the spare bedroom above. I'm betting the multi gym thing is right over it though :D

AC series-wiring special dimmer switch/remote control, but lights no longer come on

Yes I was just starting to see that idea after thinking about what endecotp said. I get it.. I think.. and yes your understanding of the requirements is correct. What about finding a live "line" at the ceiling rose though? Won't that be missing? Or is this the one that is usually looping...

AC series-wiring special dimmer switch/remote control, but lights no longer come on

My thoughts that it might work was just based off what I expect would happen in a low power DC circuit. Searching for information/advice on "AC series wiring" doesn't turn up much. Anyway the switch/remote did indeed work.. but the lights are 'off'.. Plus a triac type dimmer switch manages to...

AC series-wiring special dimmer switch/remote control, but lights no longer come on

Hi. I'm having a tough time googling this. I bought some MiLight touch-control switches, which are basically 2.4GHz radio-frquency remotes, but made to replace the lightswitch. They have a N and a L on them, they will operate from 180 - 240v AC. Plan was to keep the lightswitch ON at all times...

Can't get Wintex to work through router.

I tried running as admin. I didn't try Windows Xp etc. I'll try it. Failing that, I installed Xp through VirtualBox yesterday, so I can always use that. I'd much rather do something cool with the Pi though!

Can't get Wintex to work through router.

Yeah. I do remember reading that they renamed them from Premier Elite, to just Elite, or something. I could have sworn I tried all different panels and versions when I was doing it from my laptop months ago. Now, next problem though... Montex doesn't work on Windows 8 (BDE errors. Maintex...

Can't get Wintex to work through router.

Holy smoke - I'm on, finally!! I had to choose "Elite 48" as the panel type, and then choose 2.x software version. The panel is a Premier Elite 48 as far as I knew..

Can't get Wintex to work through router.

Hi. It's been ages since I installed my Premier 48. I have a Raspberry Pi acting as a wireless -> ethernet router. It is doing dst-nat on the following ports, to the com-ip module port 80, 10001, 30178, both TCP and UDP. These are the ports that I found when reading manuals etc. I have...
