    Central Heating Quotes

Just as an extension of this thread...how detailed should quotes for new boiler/CH installations be? Am I expecting too much to want a bit of detail - i.e. the brand/model of programmer/stat/rads/TRVs, sizes of rads etc??

    Why do some taps...

An air lock in anywhere particular? In the pipework or boiler itself?

Should I buy Viessmann Vitodens 200 35kw combi boiler?

I know this is an old thread, but can anyone shed any light on the above? What "default factory settings" is it talking about? I know there's a pump anti seizure feature that runs once a day for a minute or so as per most new boilers but the poster above talks about the boiler coming on for so...

    Why do some taps...

Expel water with a big ‘phutttt’ when you first open them – by which I mean a quick explosive burst of water, then a split second gap followed by regular flow. I’ve noticed this in a couple of houses – one was on the hot water, the taps didn’t used to do it until after some repairs were made to...

    Drayton TRVs

Are you saying the sticky goo is coming from the head itself, rather than sludge coming through the pin or gland? As these are liquid thermostats, could it be the liquid seeping out?? I presume they no longer work properly once they've dropped their sticky goo? (!!!)

    Drayton TRVs

Well I'd have been tempted by the Drayton TRV4 were it not for the fact it cannot be totally shut off. They only go down as low as the frost setting.

Leak - Is this a pressure relief valve?

Out of interest, why does this system (or any for that matter) need an automatic air vent. Isn't it just to cover up a problem rather than actually solve it? I've always wondered the same with those radiator auto bleed vents. Systems shouldn't keep getting air in should they, or else you'll be...

    Drayton TRVs

Funnily enough I visited a friend today who has the Danfoss ras c2 fitted throughout. We took a head off so I could have a closer look and uncovered the pin all scaled up as per the pic below. Had a look at another one and it was just the same. Looks like they're letting by/leaking??? They're no...

    Drayton TRVs

Do the Draytons and the Danfoss TRVs have a setting to shut fully off? (i.e. '0')

    Drayton TRVs

I'm going to be getting some new radiators fitted and have been looking at these Drayton trvs. Some places say they're one of the best trvs but quite a few say they become brittle after as little as two years and the base of the head shears off the knurled nut. So is it best to avoid these or...

Mains voltage and volt free room thermostats

Where can I find out for certain if a combi boiler I'm looking at requires a mains voltage or volt free room stat? I believe most combis are volt free but some require mains voltage. If anyone knows I'd be most obliged. The boiler is the viessmann Vitodens 100 combi.

    Boiler Output Question

Yes that's a good point. I've only once lived in a house with a combi boiler and noticed how I had to leave the bath hot tap partially closed to get sufficiently hot water out in the winter time when the water coming in is a lot colder. Saying that, I'm in no rush to run a bath. However...

    Boiler Output Question

Thanks for confirming that. I'm being recommended 28-30kW boilers. It's a 3 bed detached house, but I just have the one bathroom with an electric shower so my HW demands are just the same as a small flat really! i.e. kitchen sink, bath and basin. I see some 24kW boilers have a lower...

    Boiler Output Question

Looking at a 30kW combi boiler, I note that the heating output can vary from 8kW to 27kW. So what happens if the heating demand falls below 8kW? Is this when the boiler begins cycling? My radiators total 10kW, however once the TRVs start closing some of them off as the temp for each...

    Boiler Pump Anti Seizure Feature

Indeed. The last owners had the boiler put in by BG. You'd think they'd have said it was compulsory to have a new pump and fleeced them a bit more but alas not. Still, doesn't stop the pump firing. Ianmcd - name some boilers that don't have this feature if you know of any!

    Boiler Pump Anti Seizure Feature

The pump is old (im guessing original to the house, approx 30 years) and is a bit noisy but the creaks and bangs are from the pipework which was obviously poorly installed by the housebuilder in the first place. The force/pressure of the water being pumped round it is enough to cause some very...

    Boiler Frost Protection

Looking at new boilers I've been reading about frost protection, which as an example, activates when the system water drops to 8 degrees. The boiler then fires up, circulates the system water and heats it to 20 degrees. In general, on a combi boiler does this mean that the whole of the...

    Boiler Pump Anti Seizure Feature

Sorry, when I said it fires up I meant it just runs the pump. The pump is in the airing cupboard upstairs, the boiler is downstairs in kitchen. The pump is set to 2, although I can't see how this makes any difference as the pump anti seizure feature of the boiler is the trigger, regardless of...

    Boiler Pump Anti Seizure Feature

Does anyone have any knowledge of pump anti-seizure feature which seems fitted to many boilers these days? I have a Worcester Greenstar Ri Heat Only boiler and the manual states the pump anti seizure feature only runs when no heating has been called for 24 hours, to prevent the pump sticking...
