Installing Decking On To Wonky Patio Paving Slabs

I am looking to put decking down on to our patio area, which is around 4m x 4m. Currently the patio is made of paving slabs which, whilst being fairly secure and fastened in place, are pretty uneven and badly fitted. The current patio is a 3 to 4 brick drop down from the patio doors. I am...

Is it safe to climb on a shed roof?

No, it is: If in doubt, chicken out.

External Telephone Cable - Securing for Burglar Alarm

Could I just cut the cable somewhere down the wall, pull it into the loft and hook that into a junction box, and then get some longer cable and run that from my main socket to the junction box in the loft? What could go wrong with this? As long as I take a photo of how the cable connects to the...

External Telephone Cable - Securing for Burglar Alarm

Would this be chargeable or would they fix it as a fault caused by their own shoddy workmanship? I don't know if it makes a difference but we changed the line to Sky when we moved in so I guess they now "own" the external cable up to the main socket. Also we don't have a junction box where...

Is it safe to climb on a shed roof?

In the end I managed to gain just enough access from a 3rd side, thanks to a kind neighbour, to be able to nail it down enough to keep it in place. There is absolutely no access to the 4th side so there is a large gap without any nails, but as it is sheltered from wind by the same trees that...

External Telephone Cable - Securing for Burglar Alarm

We are having a new burglar alarm put in and it will have a dialler to contact us if it goes off. I'm also planning to hook up a DIY webcam system which will be available online. However, both of these features are pretty useless against any burglar with an IQ above 3, because our outside...

Is it safe to climb on a shed roof?

The wood isn't rotten, yet. Not sure how old it is though. Here's a pic of the inside structure (right click and View Image, can't seem to get it to load properly. Or via: http://postimg.org/image/5chv6y6k5/ )

Lawnmower Went Over Stone - Now Noisy & Cuts Too Short

Thanks for that, makes sense. I will try a new blade, I don't think it did any more damage as I heard the stone go around the mower for a bit afterwards so I don't think it was massive. If the new blade doesn't work it will be a new mower, it was only a £60 cheap Flymo one.

Lawnmower Went Over Stone - Now Noisy & Cuts Too Short

I have a lawnmower on wheels (rather than a hover one). It was already on the lowest setting for grass. It went over a stone and made a loud noise. Now the motor is noiser and it is cutting the grass really really short, pretty much down to the soil. It is also not collecting the cut grass as...

Is it safe to climb on a shed roof?

I need to replace some felt on a shed roof. The shed is fair large (around 3.5m x 1.5m) right in the corner of the garden and there is no access to 2 of the 4 sides due to lots of trees and neighbouring sheds (even if I did approach from the neighbouring gardens). Therefore, the only option...

Combi Boiler Pressure Dropping - Re-Filling Most Days

Well, after the first day of around 200ml leaking out of the PRV, very little if any has leaked out in the last 3 days, but I still needed to top up in that time. The TRV that I took off won't screw back on, or at least I can't work it out. It had a fresh leak from that radiator last night...

Combi Boiler Pressure Dropping - Re-Filling Most Days

Ok, update... there is a small leak at a radiator valve, but probably the main leak is from the pipe that goes outside. This collected around 200ml in a day. What does this point to? Don't want to get ripped off. Thanks

Combi Boiler Pressure Dropping - Re-Filling Most Days

It's not a TRV, they unscrew easily. It's a plastic cap.

Combi Boiler Pressure Dropping - Re-Filling Most Days

This might be a daft question but how do I get the plastic turning valve off the pipe to be able to tighten the nut? It seems to only allow fully open or fully closed, can't work out how it comes off the thread.

Combi Boiler Pressure Dropping - Re-Filling Most Days

Ok, I'm going to use a plastic bottle on the pipe outside to conclusively see if any water drips out. On another note, I have found one of the radiators leaks quite heavily when one of the valves is turned. If I close the valve on it, water drips out quite noticeably. The valve is usually...

Combi Boiler Pressure Dropping - Re-Filling Most Days

All pipe work, apart from immediately under the boiler and either side of each radiator, is fully plumbed in under the floorboards. Does it sound like a pipe work leak? To be honest I'd rather it be some £400 fault with the boiler than a £10 leak in a pipe that needs all carpets, floorboards...

Combi Boiler Pressure Dropping - Re-Filling Most Days

We have an Alpha boiler, around 9 years old. It's a combi boiler but not a condensing one. It came with the house we bought and we noticed the pressure was dropping gradually. Every 10 days or so, I would just top it up with the filling loop and it would be ok. However the length of time has...

Is a New Kitchen Socket Notifiable?

Ok ok ok...! To try to clarify, and I don't know much about electrics so my terminology won't be great, but the oven is on a dedicated cooker circuit with a switch. The previous gas hob was wired directly to a cable which seems, as far as I can tell, to spur off from a nearby socket on the...

Is a New Kitchen Socket Notifiable?

Cutting off the plug voids the warranty. The electrician is registered so I took what he said at face value but when you read the official rules it gives you a bit of doubt, and if we come to sell the property and it has a new kitchen, we will get asked for all the proper certs and documents. I...

Is a New Kitchen Socket Notifiable?

A new gas hob came with a plug for the ignition. Previous gas hob was wired directly. If a qualified electrician added a single socket to the end of the already existing wiring, in order to plug in the new hob, is this notifiable or not? I've read conflicting advice because generally a new...
