    How do we save NHS?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4893874.stm Shouldn't things be getting better in the 21st century? Why does the NHS have to be in debt at all? Is there really a simple solution, like cutting thousands of jobs? I think not. It makes me furious that jobs are lost and the service we recieve...

    quick question (crimped joint)

Amalgamating tape is fine, or heatshrink will do.

Old bits of conduit and Besa boxes

From what you describe I wouldn't worry too much about earthing the conduit , it's not relied on as the cpc and I doubt if there would be enough movement to abrade the t&e cable. If you want belt & braces you might be able to use a 20mm grommet in the end of the conduit.

Unsure about safety of lighting circuit

is it a flicker ie off and then on or is it a dimming momentarily? Sometimes a fridge or freezer cutting in and out will cause a momentary 'flicker' of the lights, particularly in older properties with older wiring systems.

Max cable length/run of 2.5mm T&E ring main

Domestic ring main is limited to the area of the floor ie 100 square metres not 100 metre length, you can have unlimited sockets on it as long as the floor area is less than 100 square metres. And one spur of each socket or fcu.

    Spur off cooker switch .

Use the ring method, make sure the location of the junction box is identified and accessible (your discretion as to what accessible is!) or crimp the connections then they dont need to be accessible according to the regs.

    external power query

Outside power is now covered by part p of building regs and therefore I'd recommend that you just plug in an extension lead in the garage, which presumably has an rcd? anything else will require a registered spark or notifying the labc.

    Light installation advice

Check the faq above for advice on ceiling rose wiring, one of the blacks should have red tape on it because it's a switched live from the lightswitch, go careful and dont just connect all wires of the same colour together. the faq section should answer all your queries.

blue slime coming out of socket???

Its a product of cable construction from mid to late 1960's, something to do with the solvents used in the manufacturing process. it gets its colour from the copper cores (blue/green copper oxide) and as far as I have heard it is a harmless if annoying sticky goo. I have seen it several times...

    Nits - aarghh!

I dont get the little blighters because I comb my hair several times a day with a proper comb! the kids on the other hand only brush their hair and quite often get lice, presumably from classmates, cause at the end of a decent holiday period they are 'clean'. So the answer must be to ban hair...

    What's the season.

Damsel nymph most of the season works best for me, bit of sparkly stuff twisted on thorax to simulate 'air bubbles' trapped on the real thing, just catches the eye of the wily old trout, and makes them just interested enough to have a sniff and then 'strike' they're mine ha ha ha.
