Do I get rid of CWST in loft when I get a combi boiler?

As someone pointed out, if you keep a CWST, you can still flush the toilet and get water for washing if for any reason the mains supply is interrupted by the utility company or by adverse conditions.

Water ingress at air admittance valve at top of soil stack

Noticed damp patch on ceiling, and investigation in attic revealed a drip from the top section of the soil stack, above the level of all bathrooms. Air admittance assembly is at pitched roof level, then flexible pipe, connecting to solid pipe which takes a few right-angle bends before...

    Vokera 96E 'blocked flue' light

I haven't decided if I am going to yet. I was hoping to get some guidance as to what might be causing it other than the board. Do the symptoms suggest to people here that the board is the likely suspect, or do they say to someone "Ah! That happened to me X years ago and it was Y that was the...

    Vokera 96E 'blocked flue' light

Is it part of the maker's service schedule to clean the flue and venturi? The reason I mention a 'few' cobwebs is that both he and I weren't of the opinion it was actually blocked by them.

    Vokera 96E 'blocked flue' light

Do I take it the unspoken view then is that it might be the board at fault?

    Vokera 96E 'blocked flue' light

Recently had the boiler serviced, got the diaphragm that switches the hot water on and off replaced at same time. Shortly after this, it showed the 'blocked flue' red light, so got the engineer back, and he stripped it down, cleaned a few cobwebs and dead insects out of the flue, cleaned the...

Moving an aerial socket - 2 cables behind the socket

Depends on what the cables lead to or are connected to at the other end, surely?

    Does PAT testing apply to.....?

Would you say that I'd be obliged to have the risk assessment carried out by someone with a qualification, and if so what would that be? Or am I empowered to compile the risk assessment myself?

Copy old VHS to PC - best capture device?

OP, what end-result do you want? Do you want to keep the video on your PC? Do you want to make DVDs of the VHSs? Do you want to put video clips on YouTube? This will have a bearing on what you choose, as will your budget for the project. If you want to make DVDs, my recommendation...

    Behringer 1C Monitor Speakers

Surely the OP would just take Audio out from the keyboard to Line In on the active speakers, and control volume from the keyboard?

    DIGITAL RADIO CONNECTION

Is the OP actually saying that they've got a new Cable TV installation, from the likes of Virgin Media.... as opposed to merely fitting a double coaxial socket to an existing cable and aerial?

If someone was hiring digital pianos to private households, would they need to be PAT tested?

Device for switching Electric Shower off after a time?

If it's an electric shower, and you're in the house, you could turn off the water at the gate valve feeding it. The shower should shut off when the pressure gets below a certain point. I don't think there'd be any safety issues with this solution, unless anyone can correct me?

I saw some on professional audio website(s) a little while ago. Once I find them again, will post, but try a google for 'optical switch' or similar in the meantime

    Panasonic Viera

Service mode? Some combination of buttons that the service engineer can use to diagnose what's happening? Same letters every time, or different? Google your model number with 'service mode' or 'service keystrokes' and variations on same to see what comes up.

On Standby permanently is a fire risk, apparently.

For what it's worth, every HiFi amplifier that I've used since 1976 has been plugged in, switched on, and left on permanently until there's been a power cut, I've needed to connect alternative sources to it, or until I've bought another amplifier. The CD player gets the same treatment. I...
