    Confused over padstones

Thanks. That's useful. I guess the next largest standard size to what he has specified will be sufficient. It's probably what he would do anyway.

    Confused over padstones

There are 8 pairs of beams so quite a few pads also! :(

    Confused over padstones

I doubt it, none of the stones he's specified seem standard. I'll leave that to the builder and inspector to work out however. If I need to go back to him and ask for standard sizes I'll do so at the time.

    Confused over padstones

SE responded and changed to 500x100x215. Not had much luck with engineers and architects for this project, too many mistakes I'm spotting that the average Joe wouldn't. Just hope the builder is better!

    Full fill cavity insulation

I'm doing some research on cavity wall insulation for my extension. I note that there is a full fill 97mm PIR from Celotex (CF5000), which is better performing than the Isover CWS 32 100mm. Is there a reason why I would not go with the Celotex over the Isover? I have been reading lots of...

    Confused over padstones

I will drop him an email tomorrow. I thought I may have misunderstood something hence doing some searching, but doesn't sound like I am.

    Confused over padstones

Hi, My SE has specified various sized padstones for the numerous beams to be installed as part of an extension I am having built. None of which seem standard sizes I may add. However I am confused over how these are to be installed and wonder if anyone can enlighten me as to how these are...

    Consolidated hardcore thickness

Thanks Woody, this is as I expected. The ground is good and level. I'll worry it with the architect in case it's in error.

    Consolidated hardcore thickness

Hi, How do you determine the thickness of hardcore below a 125mm concrete slab? My architect has specified 300mm yet most of the details I see note 150mm. I've looked at building regs and this just states between 100-600mm but don't see how the precise thickness is determined. Thanks.

    Recommendations for new build

Hi, I'm researching alarm systems for my renovation/new build. What system would you recommend? I'd like features such as alerts, app control, majority wired but capability for wireless (future requirements and out building), proximity set/unset etc. I've also got a number of axis and...

Column Footings on existing strip founds?

Hi all, Currently planning an extension. Have finally got the planning permission and have just had the engineers calcs back for the steelwork. I have a question which without wanting to sound stupid going back to him, thought I would ask the people that may actually have experience in...

    Difficulty with planning

Good news, hopefully! They say "in principal" the latest submission is successful, yet they will do a 1 week neighbour consultation, which is better than the initial 2 suggested. Fingers crossed. Still slightly miffed at the lack of standardisation they apply yet just want to move forward.

    Difficulty with planning

Our case officer works part time at 3 days a week, has been on training and holiday with no backup, delayed a site visit 2 weeks because on the first occasion she couldn't open a door I left unlocked for her and the second her electric car ran out of power. We arrange a meeting to try and get...

    Difficulty with planning

They want to hope I don't appeal and win or else I'll be claiming some council tax back through damages as a result of lost time and having to pay additional mortgage payments I would have otherwise not have paid.

    Difficulty with planning

That's crazy. So basically a decision can be made and guidance altered as the wind blows or case officers mood changes. They are enforcing bad design through not applying common sense instead of encouraging good design that looks right and is asthetically pleasing.

    Difficulty with planning

SPD states 1m step back. Yet the argument is why was this also not also applied to the other 3 neighboring properties all built within the last 3 years when SPD has been introduced since 2012.

    Difficulty with planning

Hi, Wonder if anyone can lend any experienced advice or point me in the direction of self help. I purchased a house to renovate and extend to move into. It's a 1970's semi in a street of same design properties. A number if these properties have been extended to the side adding 4m to the...

    Asbestos Pipe?

Thanks, hopefully only the flue to remove then as there is nothing below that and according to the neighbors was removed years ago. Do you happen to know how far up the flue is likely to go? Is it all the way up to the chimney in roof or just part way? Trying to work out how best to have it...

    Asbestos Pipe?

Thanks, unfortunately a bit late for not disturbing the rope, not this one but the other day I was removing the fireplace and as I pulled the hearth away from the wall, this tor away from its seal... I mixed a spray tub of PVA and water and doused down the area then wrapped in plastic sealed...

    Asbestos Pipe?

Hi all, I've just bought a house and currently ripping it out ready for extending and renovating. It's circa 1970 and whilst it now has gas central heating there is stainless steel ducting all through the house which used to be a hot air heating system. I don't think the ducting contains...
