    8m steel beam

Hi, I'm busy thinking over an extension for the rear of the house and reviewing a number of challenges which would need to be overcome. The main issue is that there is very little access to the rear of the property, let alone sufficient to swing an 8m steel to keep up the rear of the first...

Loft Conversion Existing Ceiling Joists & New Floor Beam

Thanks. I work for a large multidisciplinary engineering firm so obtaining calcs is not an issue once I understand the best option for the floor installation with the roof configuration I have, which is seemingly unique!? However the structural engineers I work with are used to designing...

Loft Conversion Existing Ceiling Joists & New Floor Beam

Hi All, I am currently drafting up some plans to convert my loft space. The house is a 1930's semi detached with hipped roof and single king post and tie beam running front to rear of property at the hip to ridge line. The total span is 7m but supported by a load bearing wall half way...

Texecom Ricochet or Visonic Powermaster 30?

Hi all, I have been researching a new install for a few weeks now as the old one is, well old. I first looked at the ricochet as recommended for its wireless good at what it does characteristics. I have now come across the powermaster 30, the main reason being that it has supported...

    Texecom Ricochet

Thanks, Are the vibration door/window sensors not better than just the standard contacts though as I thought the vibration sensors would cater for both? I was thinking that they would provide enhanced protection against someone trying to kick the door in for example and set the alarm off...

    Texecom Ricochet

I just specced the duals because I understood they were better? Is there a rule of thumb on when to use dual, quad or standard XT? Price between dual and quad seems to be nothing and then XT seems only to be about £10 a unit so it just seemed to make more sense going for dual on a system...

    Texecom Ricochet

Hi All, I am busy speccing up a new alarm system. Currentl one has a problem with one of the zones and to be honest its that old (Concept) I am thinking about just replacing it. I am looking to go wireless as the house in 1930's semi and no easy way to route wires without destroying decor...

Permanent feed off 2. Way switch?

Ah FFS, I was being flippant. We all know that its not a good idea to go doing things we are not sure about, especially with electric. So that is why I came here, to learn and seek advice, not to get grief off you so give it a rest. Advice to everyone. Don't assume red is live and black...

Permanent feed off 2. Way switch?

Sound advice from shedhead there folks. Can't argue with that. Although by design the house is RCD protected so the worst that would happen would be a blown fuse. I'm not stupid enough to go mashing my cables into the live sockets with a metal screwdriver here, oh no, I used a plastic one...

Permanent feed off 2. Way switch?

Shedhead, your lass probably calls yours a weena but you think its a dong, there the same thing at the end of the day to each of you. For others information, thanks for the help I have now got it sorted. wired from existing socket on bedroom side to 3 amp fuse spur placed next to the socket...

Permanent feed off 2. Way switch?

Thanks buddy. Yes took a line from a socket in the adjacent bedroom up the cavity so I now have a positive and negative permanent live. I will connect this to a 3amp fuse spur before connecting to the mirror, this sound ok? Can the fuse be on the internal side of the bathroom wall behind...

Permanent feed off 2. Way switch?

Your a happy chap mind. That's why I am here!! For your information the light mirror was an afterthought after realising the light in that area is not good given both the main room light and window are behind you when at the sink causing shadow. The idea of the mirror was to remedy this and...

Permanent feed off 2. Way switch?

Thanks, I connected the black and red cable up and it actually worked but I couldn't get those cables back in the switch without the switch affecting the mirror. If I need to take the feed from elsewhere it's going to cause major problems for me :(.
