    balancing central heating system

I decided to contact Circulating Pumps re my problems and I managed to spend quite a bit of time discussing my problems with one of their technical guys. He repeated a lot of ideas already discussed on this forum but suggested it may not be a pump problem. He felt I had a blockage/restriction...

    balancing central heating system

Tony, I do have a simple digital multimeter capabable of measuring volts, dc currant and resistance. So looks like meter is out. Can you give me a little more detail on how to perform other test you suggest and what I should see

    balancing central heating system

Tony - The pump only occasionally starts on lowest setting.I can only get it running on lowest setting by starting it on level 2 then switching it to 1. I do have an old pump, might be worth trying that capacitor?

    balancing central heating system

Thanks Gareth. The noise is definetely coming from the 22.5 mm pipes. I think it is turbulence due to improper balancing. Pump is running smoothly

    balancing central heating system

I have n't explained myself on this one. If I let the system cool down and then run it with the boiler stat on 0, the pump runs quietly on alll 3 settings. I am coming back to what is probably a badly designed system with no thought about correct order of radiators. Presently I have managed to...

    balancing central heating system

I thought about valves. They have not been touched since pump waa replaced 6 years ago. Temp checks across pump ie minimal temp drop. Can the pump perform differently with hot water passing through it. When I run the system with cold water no problems

    balancing central heating system

Again many thanks for quick response. I have tried everything to get the system to run quietly. Failing miserably. The only time I have got the system to run quietly is when I have just had the last radiator on the circuit on its own. Boiler was set to max and tripped out after a while.

    balancing central heating system

I decided to order an infrared thermometer as I am having no luck balancing my system. Had a good read of the FAQ on this site regarding balancing and decided to give it a go with infrared thermometer. First part flagged up an immediate problem. Opened all lockshields and removed TRV's then...

    Thumping sound from Central Heating

Sorry to but in on this post but I am experiencing similar air problems no thumping but gurgling in 22mm pipe round pump area. I have just mofified my central heating system ie changed radiator in hall for larger unit. The hall is now much warmer and all radiators get hot so my small...

    balancing central heating system

Except for bypass radiator all radiators have TRV's. I presume you mean open this fully. They are mostly on the left

    balancing central heating system

Thanks for all your suggestions. I wii try gas test tomorrow. Can you assist me on how to balance bypass radiator. Should I determine whichh is the input side then leave that fully open then adjust other side

took a look at header tank. Nothing untoward . In my original post I highlited bypass radiator should valves be fully open

it is open vented but did work ok before ie did not let in air

    balancing central heating system

I have replaced a radiator in my hall with a larger unit for greater heat output. It has turned out really well. All the radiators get piping hot but I am having trouble rebalancing the system. I have managed to balance systems before using simple technique ie turning heat on full all TRV's...

    Replacing radiator

thanks for speedy response. I think lockshield pipework should bend ok but I am a little concerned with pipework on TRV. If you look closely on slides there is a 15mm to 10mm reducer and a coupler before the bend so very little pipework to bend. Will that be a problem?

    Replacing radiator

Have been getting a lot grief from the wife regarding heat output from the hall radiator. As can be seen from the first 2 slides the single radiator is tiny for the hall stairs and la landing so I propose to replace the 500 * 450 with a 500 * 600 double. This should give an extra 150% of...
