    Spot the problem!

I spotted this lamp outside my local Sainsburys and railway station, I believe that the lamp belongs to said supermarket. I haven't seen it live, although no one seems want to do anything about it.

    hong kong plug adapter

At my college there is a print drier for drying photographic paper which is constantly damp and only a Class 1 device, these are rare and expensive and apparently only available from Germany, thus they end up with a CEE 7/7 plug. The drier is plugged in with a Schuko to BS1363 adapter...

    What's this old plug?

Really? I thought BS 546 5amp 2pin became the standard shaving outlet normally now fused with a 1amp BS 646 fuse.

    bending 20mm plastic conduit

Ahh, I didn't mean the inside of the conduit, I meant the inside of the bend. Please pardon my grammar.

    bending 20mm plastic conduit

Make sure you warm up the outside of the bend quite a lot more than the inside, a heat-gun I find works well, if you warmup the inside it can kink a little.

What isolator switch do I need?

Rather like JohnD (I think) I would recommend the MEM isolator/enclosure as shown in his photo. These are particularly useful because they have a small hatch where the outgoing terminals only can be accessed. I picked one up on ebay for a very reasonable price the other day.

comsumer unit advice for a 110v system

I realise the problems with switching DC and that it would be more hassle than inverting; but the added cost of inverters and the 20-30% extra lossage in the system, which will be output as heat which we have to get rid of, is a little to hard to ignore. Monitors use SMPS also, in fact the...

comsumer unit advice for a 110v system

Why ever invert the power from the batteries? Switch mode power supplies for computers run very well on DC if the voltage is over 90volts or so.

A light switch pullcord should be fine, unless for some unknown reason you have a 10kW fan :D

    Attractive Fluorescent Fitting?

They are small tubes, which makes them more efficient (apparently) just as T8 tubes were more efficient than T12. You can get them in almost any length/power now, so are suitable for lighting a room rather than just the work surface.

    Options for Under Cabinet Lighting.

I think your best bet would be to replace the tubes with warmer ones, you would then have a similar light to a CFL, which is of course just what you have at the moment rolled up into a smaller shape. Bear in mind that for under cupboard lighting, or for that matter almost any other type of...

    Picture of the week!™

It sounds like error correction in the projector, all projectors have a little delay, especially DLP projectors, but with a longer cable there will be more noise and more to filter and more of a delay. Just a theory, I will stand corrected...

    Attractive Fluorescent Fitting?

Since I went to the Dan Flavin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Flavin exhibition at The Hayward I think all fluorescent lights are very attractive, not the dirty ones though. But more to the point, Tamlite do excellent T5 high frequency fittings, I've got four in my kitchen, they come with...

Excellent, if you insist on a dimmer, get the most powerful one you can and make sure it is rated to dim transformers.
