Attractive Fluorescent Fitting?

A bit oxymoronic, but does anyone know of a nice looking fluorescent fitting? Ideally electronic control gear so there's no flickering and HF so its easy on the eye, but I'm flexible on these last two!

Once the fitting is sorted I'd always go for Megaman lamps - fast start up and good colour rendition - well as good as you'll ever get from a CFL.

Since I went to the Dan Flavin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Flavin exhibition at The Hayward I think all fluorescent lights are very attractive, not the dirty ones though.

But more to the point, Tamlite do excellent T5 high frequency fittings, I've got four in my kitchen, they come with lamps which have great colour rendering. Also Homebase do some decent T8 HF fittings, but the tubes aren't nearly as good. Shop around, but I think T5 lamps look great in kitchens.

Thanks for your suggestions, I like some of the stuff on the Thorn site.

Is Thorn widely obtainable from the wholesalers?

I looked in Homebase but couldn't find anything except the bog standard white fittings.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't T5s small tubes, under-cupboard size rather than light the room size?

They are small tubes, which makes them more efficient (apparently) just as T8 tubes were more efficient than T12. You can get them in almost any length/power now, so are suitable for lighting a room rather than just the work surface.

Thorn as far as I know is part of GE,
Most wholesalers , can get it or will stock the basic stuff,
They tend to push ther own brands more.
WF- alto
CEF-tamlite
Most HF stuff may need to be ordered
T5 stuff which is mostly HF anyway, almost certainly will need ordering

Do you shop in tesco, look at there ceiling lights , there likely to be 54watt
colour 840 - T5 tubes about 1200mm long
