Advice on heating system to use in renovated kitchen

At the moment, there are some sort of vinyl tiles. But we're looking to replace those. I'm guessing that vinyl or laminate would be warmer, but I think the mrs is set on stone tiles.... :)

Advice on heating system to use in renovated kitchen

Not specifically, but they are what I was thinking of by 'plumbed in radiators under the new cabinets'. The biggest current problem is that the floor is very cold, which is why I'm leaning towards under floor heating. Would these plinth heaters heat the floor? Thanks for the reply, Dan

Advice on heating system to use in renovated kitchen

Hi, I'm planning a kitchen renovation, and are looking at different heating systems. The kitchen is in a 1980s extension to the original building, and has a concrete floor. It is currently heated via an electric plinth fan heater, and is open plan to the living room, so gets some heat from...

Incoming electrical supply - can it be simplified

Excellent, thanks this is all good information. I think I've realised the question I should have asked initially: Does it look OK and is it safe? Who should I get to look at it to do some tests or fix any issues? I'll try and see if I can get in next door to see if it connects through...

Incoming electrical supply - can it be simplified

Thanks for the replies so far. It's definitely possible that the conduit supplies next door, I'm in a terrace. As you say, the cable does look quite small, so I'd have thought that was unlikely? It's good to know that it doesn't look particularly bad. I really just wanted to know if...

Incoming electrical supply - can it be simplified

Hi, I live in an old house which has obviously had many changes/improvements to the electric supply over the years. It currently looks very complicated and I'm wondering if there's anything which can be done to simplify it. I'm guessing that the supply enters at the bottom, and goes...

How to create this door frame

Ahh, OK, thanks. That makes sense - the whole house is wooden, no bricks except the fireplace.... :) Assuming, for a moment, that we're OK with it cracking, could you explain how this is installed differently from a standard door lining? Would you install the lining and then plaster over it...

How to create this door frame

Hi, We're having a new stud wall built and have asked for this style of door/frame. https://www.howdens.com/doors-joinery-collection/internal-doors/internal-hardwood-doors/solid-rustic-oak/ Initially, he seemed fine with it, but now that the wall is built, he's saying that it's quite...

    Adding external light

Sorry, I should have been clearer, there is a (several) neutral hidden in the paneling behind the switch. Also, there is a permanent live coiled up and terminated with insulating tape! (I didn't touch that! Guess it might be useful to add a new switch location with a neutral?) Anyway, I added...

    Adding external light

Right, I've got my light and supplies. I've opened up the switch and it looks like there's a neutral there. So, there's one wire with red, black and earth. The red goes to common and the black to L2. There are another 2 red wires - I can't see where they come from, so I'll...

Changing from vented to unvented system

I hadn't considered this, and they do look good, but as I said, I'm limited for space and it looks like thermal stores are far larger than I have room for. Anyone have any more input on horizontal vs vertical? The only point mentioned so far is the thermostat location, which I agree is not...

Changing from vented to unvented system

OK, thanks. Is there a reason for the dislike of horizontal cylinders? I have no experience, but a horizontal cylinder seems a perfect solution to my problem. My plumber doesn't have a particular dislike of the horizontal model. He's fine with two cylinders too, he's said that it's no problem...

Changing from vented to unvented system

Looks like a nice combination system, but I have no room for this. Also, I've had several bad experiences with Glow-Worm boilers.

Changing from vented to unvented system

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. The capacities are the same 2 * 90 or 1 * 180. The other was 150, so the vertical stores less than the horizontal, not more.

Changing from vented to unvented system

    Why? Efficiency? Reliability? Other reason?
