    Battery operated (flammable) gas detector

Just because I'd mount it on the wall quite high up where it's not really noticeable and I'm fine with checking batteries weekly, also where I want it there's no power supply and I dont want loads of cables or to have to rig it up to the lighting rig like my smoke detectors

Wall mounted boiler frame not flush with wall at top

Cheers Jon - Just not knowing much about boilers and gas I always fear the worst - ie explosion - if there was a bad gas leak and the boiler fired up during the night etc in winter and caused chaos....My old man was a fireman and heard horror stories, - this was back in the 70s and 80s though

    Battery operated (flammable) gas detector

Is there such a thing available for domestic/household use? (rather than a trade detector) Not a Carbon Monoxide detector – I've got one of those (I also take if we go away and you cant trust foreign gas appliances etc) Would prefer a battery operated one (pref one of those 5 or 10 year...

Wall mounted boiler frame not flush with wall at top

Thanks Tony but forgetting the casing would you be concerned by the pics I posted if they were the only 2 screws used and would you take the boiler out and re-mount it to be safe? The cabinet coming out can be done if the boiler is not safe..

Wall mounted boiler frame not flush with wall at top

Cheers Muggles. Would you advise to get them round to have a butchers (to ensure it's safe?)? and in the meantime talk to the chippy about designing a new box that easily detaches for easy access? My main concern is if there was a gas leak though obviously, and then when the boiler tried to...

Wall mounted boiler frame not flush with wall at top

Cheers Muggles. For peace of mind should I invest in a (flamable gas detector) and locate it near the boiler (not a CO one - I've got one of those) and in your opinion I could remove said boxing in and get them to mount the frame on wooden batons so it's a bit proud of the wall) - would this be...

Wall mounted boiler frame not flush with wall at top

Whilst I've already said I should have created a cabinet thats easily detachable from the wall etc, if it had to some down as there was a fault with the boiler then fair enough - my mistake and at least its lasted a few years - but in this case if the boiler was not installed as per the specs on...

Wall mounted boiler frame not flush with wall at top

Thanks Gavin. Do you think it's dangerous though or something I should just live with? I wondered if (as per my original post) that some sort of corner braces or small brackets could be added to strengthen the structure to the wall - it would certainly save taking the boiler out and adjusting...

Wall mounted boiler frame not flush with wall at top

to get the boiler frame flush to the wall (as Wocester say it should be) I assume the boiler will need to come out which would probably mean the surrounding cabinet being dismantled. As I have paid for a chippy to box it in already, not to mention the fact I will lose time overseeing them put...

Wall mounted boiler frame not flush with wall at top

Cheers for the reply Jon Yeah, that's my point I would have packed it out, but will see what they say. Not sure if wall was 100% straight but if he'd have mentioned it nae bother as long as it's safe. Screws look tight to frame but a good 5mm from wall with a split plug and looks like the...

Wall mounted boiler frame not flush with wall at top

Wall mounted boiler frame not flush with wall at top

Evening forum Just over 2 years ago I had a Wocester green star junior 24i boiler installed. It was a direct replacement for the old one so no moving pipes etc. I got a friends uncle to do it who've been in the trade over 40 years, all gas safe registered etc. All fine and working well so I...

Condensation between window panes in double glazing

In the last couple of years there's been more and more condensation building up between panes in my double glazing. I've read that they have failed and will need replacing. My question is: Is it just the glass thats needs replacing or the entire frames as well? Obviously new glass panes cost...

Would a home buyers survey comment on wall construction

I very much doubt it, essentially they are acting in the interests of the lender and not the buyer, to establish if the property is worth the monies being lent. If there's structural defects this may affect the value of the house, thus not being worth what you're paying for it, but things like...

Putting in a ground floor window underneath an upstairs wall

Cheers for the reply. My builder has said to get a structural engineer to look at it to be on the safe side, sounds like it might start getting expensive - I presume he'd need to expose the area to make a call? (Floorboards up etc) the room above is all nicely decorated and carpeted...
