    Floorboard and Brick Gap

Could you not use silicone or caulk around the bottom of the skirting board. Thats what i plan on doing and also to fill in the gaps in the floorboards.

    Quality Underlay

Depends where its being used and the type of carpet. I have just put down some Tredaire Sensation for a bedroom and am very happy with it.

Any point in over-speccing BTU vs. what is required?

I'm new to this but doing my own, my understanding is that radiators cant be too big, its purely cosmetics, you can always turn them down. It also allows a lower boiler temperature which should mean its running in condensing mode more of the time. I'm calculating based on a difference of 35c.

    Boiler position

Okay, thanks. I'm sure the installer will sort that. The current boiler is in the garage but on the outside wall so a fair bit further away.

    Boiler position

I wont be doing the boiler myself, but i needed to know it was possible. I'm just doing the central heating pipework myself maybe the cold and hot water as well. I think frost protection will come with evohome, not heard of pipe stats though.

    Boiler position

Can a combi be mounted in a garage, fixed to the side of the house wall, with the flue straight up through the garage roof, its a flat roof. I originally wanted it in the kitchen extension to give faster hot water to the taps, but running the pipes would be much harder, would need to go through...

    Hanging a heavy radiator.

One other question, does evo home satisfy the reg for zoning, as i wont be fitting any zoning valves. That's even if as a diyer i have to comply with them, i am aiming to though. Only bit of the job i'm not doing is the new boiler. Just leave two 22mm pipes for them to connect to.

    Hanging a heavy radiator.

I have done, and sized for t35. Room came to 1363 W, radiator is 1445 W at t35. The size down is 1283 W. Unless i have made a mistake somewhere. Its my understanding that its better to go too big than too small, especially for a combi that will be controlled by individual radiators (evo home).

    Hanging a heavy radiator.

The system throughout the house is very old and all the panels are undersized for every room, not to mention were soon to be going to a combi boiler so the panels need upgrading, i'm taking out all the old pipes as they are constantly banging and the installation was such a poor one, pipes...

    Hanging a heavy radiator.

Great, it was only after taking delivery i realised how heavy it was, then its to be filled with water. And those blocks just seem so flimsy.

    Hanging a heavy radiator.

Got a new radiator to fit in the bedroom, took down a 600x1400 single and replacing with a type 21 600x1800 so its a fair bit heavier, its going on i think its breeze block, looks like compressed gravel and breaks up easily with about 15mm of plaster. I'm thinking 8x70 coach screws should be...

    Radiator sizing

Great just what i was after, looks like the room needs around 3kw at delta t30 or 2kw at 40. Makes a big difference.

    Radiator sizing

I'm about to start fitting the first of some new radiators, i think i get most of it. So far i have used this calculator. http://www.theradiatorcompany.co.uk/heatoutput/ 4.140 x 2.970 x 2.440 with a large window. This gives me an upper figure of 5275 BTU (1546kw) for the room in question. Now...

    Joists too small in loft?

Great to know, would there be any benefit in also fixing the ends of the new 3x2 to the large support that runs along the length of the roof either side, cant think what its called but looks very substantial. Could use metal ties i suppose, to help hold the weight?

    Joists too small in loft?

Same as our loft, i'm adding more 3x2 on top of the existing and glueing and screwing them together, giving 6x2. Means i can get 140mm celotex in then as well and 18mm chipboard on top.

    Old Central Heating

Thanks. I've been using this calculator http://www.theradiatorcompany.co.uk/heatoutput/ and adjusting to 70/50/20c so 40t going on Stelrads specs. I think that's right, i understand most specs are based at 50t. Plastic securing wise i plan on putting a clip or such every half meter, i will...

    Old Central Heating

Just hoping i'm not making any mistakes, or if there are any other ideas. I didn't think it would be a good idea to start pumping the current water through new radiators, and didn't fancy using any cleaning products ive heard they can cause issues on really old systems that have not been...
