Should I use an air brick in this circumstance?

I am going to brick up an used fireplace, quite small, currently a cast surround. However, I am not sure whether I need to use an air brick. The fire is unused, but I think joins up with a used flue from downstairs. I've read that in this case a airbrick shouldn't be used, as if any sparky bits...

Replacement for Danfoss HSA3 Three port valve

Ahh. Think I was right above - the HSA3 is the head unit (correct term - actuator?), HS3 is the entire unit. Had a look at prices just for the valve, nearly as much as the whole unit. (55+ compared with 69), so will go for whole unit giving me a spare actuator unit I reckon. Thanks again...

Replacement for Danfoss HSA3 Three port valve

Ooops. Another Q's. Whats the difference between the HSA3 and the HS3 I see here http://www.screwfix.com/prods/30424/Plumbing/Central-Heating-Controls/Danfoss-HS3-3-Port-Motorised-Valve Or is HSA3 just the marking on the head unit with the HS3 being the whole unit, or is it something...

Replacement for Danfoss HSA3 Three port valve

Thanks all, sounds like the Danfoss will be OK then. Only a couple of quid cheaper, but the head still works, so could just replace the valve part (can you buy them separately?), and leave myself with a spare head unit. Thanks again. James

Replacement for Danfoss HSA3 Three port valve

I'm going to replace the three way valve as I know mine has a slight leak and isn't really working properly anyway (over hot water when CH is on) - I think the valve itself is partially broken. It has certainly jammed up at least once requiring 'help' from a grip to get it moving again...

Leaking rad - replace, mend, flush, inhibit?

Cheers. It's in a low use bedroom so painted should be fine.

Leaking rad - replace, mend, flush, inhibit?

Thanks for all the advice chaps. Just to confirm - the water leaking out is very clean. Could have come straight out of the tap (not going to taste it though..). However, I am going to replace the rad then run the system for a while with a cleaner as recommended - seems a sensible things...

Leaking rad - replace, mend, flush, inhibit?

Thanks Rico, excellent advice there. How do you check other radiators for impending doom? The one that has failed would have been very difficult to spot, being on the rear side of the front panel. Also, the X400, X800 I found is by Sentinel, not Fernox - is it the same stuff? James

Leaking rad - replace, mend, flush, inhibit?

Hello all, Just discovered the twin panel twin convector rad in our spare bedroom has done a impressive leak job, so pretty soggy carpet But question is to do with what to do now. The leak is from the rear of the front panel - appears to be a rust through pinhole - the enamel has been...

Size of SWA to run to garage

Yeah, having re-read - it was a tad unclear!!! But I see your point, someone may want to dig there later. James

Size of SWA to run to garage

Pretty sure you got what I meant, but to be clear, because its a driveway, I am not expecting to be digging it up or gardening in it!! Thanks for info so far. Yes, I do have three phase to the house, I was hoping (?) that the the SWA could be plumbed in just after the meter where the...

Size of SWA to run to garage

Oops, forgot to ask, how deep should the SWA be buried - it will not enter the house at all, just run from the box where supply and meters are, alongside the house, underground to the garage. I could fix it to side of house and only run underground for about 1m to reach the garage, but would...

Size of SWA to run to garage

Hi all, been trying to find some figures for this, and need confirmation.. Have a run of about 15m from my outside junction box to my garage for three phase/4 core SWA. Will be required to run: lights, usual garage sockets, 15A compressor (Currently run off 13amp circuit - to be rewired)...

Programmable room stats - worth getting?

Wireless TP5 equivalent is £70 more expensive than the Salus though - is it worth the extra? (I do need a wireless one - the TP5 is wired AFAICT) James

Programmable room stats - worth getting?

Following on from a previous thread, the title says it all. Are programmable room stats worth the extra cash? Do they save fuel and therefore money? (Reduce carbon footprint blah blah blah) A Salus RF programmable stat is around £66 from Toolstation - is that a good make/price...

Adding a wireless thermostat to existing controller

Cheers TWGas, I thought as much, just wanted to make sure. Shame, as this is a few quid cheaper than the other programmables I have looked at. So, in a similar vein, what are Salus thermostats like - any good? These are about £66 on Toolstation, and also, do people find that the...

Adding a wireless thermostat to existing controller

HI Gas4You, In that case, I am getting confused by the wiring diagram on the link here.. http://www.sunvic.co.uk/tlxrfp.htm It appears to just have N, L and an output side - rather than two terminals for the VFC switching. Is it just a crappy wiring diagram, or does this particular...

Adding a wireless thermostat to existing controller

Thanks Gas4You, Just to confirm (and to ensure I get things right), the thermostat simply makes or breaks the HTG On line (N/O) - so (and I think this is what you said in your reply) is simply added in series on terminal 4 on the programmer backplate... This make me think that I need s...

Adding a wireless thermostat to existing controller

Hello all, I have a digital Danfoss controller on my oil fired water and heating system, but there is no thermostat. No idea why one wasn't fitted 0- all rads have TRV's but boiler still goes on and off all the time, which I think must be wasting oil. (Cannot afford to do that nowadays!)...
