    Water too hot

I've tried measuring the temp with an Infrared thermo, but its a bit erratic, although the temps appears to be within a deg each side of the diverter. I do need to test when the system is cold as you suggest, but that means getting up early. Still, I have an early waking 2 year old which should...

    Water too hot

And a bit more information. I turned the heating off and checked the operation of the cylinder stat. It does appear to work correctly, in that when it clicks, the water starts to circulate. However, the water in the cylinder is about 20deg higher than what the stat is set to - so I have to...

    Water too hot

Just for added information, there is a divertor unit next to the tank. This does *appear* to work correctly, as in the summer, the rads stay cold when the heating is turned off. There is a standard programmable timer on the system, a boiler temp control and thats about it for the controls. I...

    Water too hot

Hi all, I've done a search on the forum and wiki, and no answer so I'll try a new topic. My central heating/water heating appears to work fine, except the hot water is very very hot. Certainly probably 10-20degs higher than the thermostat on the HW tank is set to. In fact it doesn't appear to...

    loft insulation

In one of my loft areas (three extensions - nightmare lmaze loft space) I put down extra insulation, but because it was only about 2.5 metres across, I nailed a couple of 2x2" to the roof joists above the insulation layer across the roof space. I can now place light stuff over the new 2x2" and...

    Loft insulation & boarding

Most of the stuff you ask is covered in other posts, but the one thing I would say is that you shouldnt compress insulation as it is only as good as its thickness, so if you compress 100mm down to 50mm, it only as good as 50mm insulation. Current regs say 270mm I think, and this is usually done...

    Insulation in to the eaves

Hello all, My house has very high ceilings, meaning there is a diagonal part of the ceiling where its parallel with the roof. Using a I/R temperature reader from inside the room, these parts of the ceiling are 2-3degs colder than the main flat part of the ceiling. Looking in the loft shows...

    Intermittent socket...??

Thanks all. Yes, I am saving up to have all the consumer units replaced with one big three phase one, and have the three phase taken out to the garage (sounds expensive). Have asked someone to quote but they never phoned back!! The bill does have two reading - so Problem Solved. Thanks...

    Lighting Flickering...

I had someone come round to my household garage at my last house - complaining that their lights kept flickering and dimming. Turned out to be my welder. They were three doors down, so on the samephase. She was a bit annoyed, but I'd almost finished the chassis by then...!! The house was on a...

    Intermittent socket...??

Thanks for replies all. No storage heaters at moment. House on three phase supply, which I guess may indicate electric heating in the past. The socket appears to be newer than the others in the room - certainly the bad plaster work around it is newer than the paintwork, unlike the other...

    Intermittent socket...??

Had a weird experience last night. Other half said that double socket in sprogs room wasnt working (and hasnt been working since we moved in). So I plugged in the nearest thing - a fan - and it wasnt working. SO, thought I'll have a look tomorrow. In middle of night, yells from sprogs room (not...

Trying to identify a cooker hood..

The house is old but the kitchen is new - about 2-3 years. Still trying to contact the previous owners. I have so far confirmed it's not Baumatic (Thanks to Baumatic Tech Support), although they do have ones that look very similar!! Looks like I may have to troll through the showrooms...

Trying to identify a cooker hood..

Under the filters is a spec panel, with the data I put in OP - IDC Model M90, but that's it and I have not been able to cross ref that with anything. I am hesitant to take the whole thing down to look on the back for any more data. James

Honda Civic 2002 - Beeper stopped working

Hello all, anyone know where the beeper/buzzer is on these? Or if they have a common failure mode that I can fix easily? I've keep leaving the lights on 'cos the beeper doesn't beep when I get out of the car!!! James

i have a kia sedona and wish to service my own rear brakes.

Some drums have a couple threaded holes as well as the grub screws holding the drum in place. You can use these threaded holes to put in a bolt (of correct thread), and wind it in. It then pushes the drum away from the hub. Nifty! James
