Insulating a gable end steel frame.

Can you not use celotex in the webs? Like you've done on the bottom left of the picture? I think not a lot more can be achieved here, sometimes BC need to accept and be pragmatic around the solution presented.

How important is butting up the joints?

Is it advisable do you think? I mean I could do it this weekend - what are the chances of cracking if I were to say inject silicone underneath to stick to the celotex to help or would the scrim tape do most of the work?

How important is butting up the joints?

Thanks Dereekoo. I have a couple of boards however like this: Where the board on the left is essentially hanging 30cm or so - would it hold up with scrim tape?

How important is butting up the joints?

Perpendicular - thinking I could stick it underneath to the celotex, would it work?

How important is butting up the joints?

You think I could use some thin wood under the joists or does it need to be firm? Assume the latter?

How important is butting up the joints?

Thanks for the response. Slightly annoying then as I can't view the joists as they're under 40mm of celotex - would need to remove this to add the noggin.

    Electrics on top of celotex

Thanks - Celotex is 40mm on top of 100mm, I could channel out some of the 40mm if required. So the question is, is it safe as the cables surrounded by insulation? And should this just be boxed in plastic conduit and then filler over the top of it?

How important is butting up the joints?

Hi, I'm in the process of adding plasterboard to a ceiling before a skim coat. How important is it to get these flush? there is a small gap of maybe 3mm between a couple of these? Also when jointing two plasterboards some of the boards cannot be fixed with screws along the joint line due to...

    Electrics on top of celotex

Hi, On building an extension, I opted for cold roof and in order to gain max thermal performance decided to not run electrics for spotlights. Now I need to add lighting such as LED track lights, is it possible to run the cable ontop of the celoxte under/in the plasterboard? The plasterboard is...

Insulation to achieve 0.13 rating help or suggestion greatly appreciated

I think you could get a SAP calculation done, to achieve the therm value at 0.13 with 100mm between rafters and 40mm underneath. SAP calcs take into account the whole house thermal value they're around £250.00 Good luck.

Query around PIR loft insulation and condensation

Ah I reread this and understand now, I can't see there being a problem with this method as there is plenty of ventilation but others may chip in.

Query around PIR loft insulation and condensation

The PIR needs to be air tight, and if possible use a membrane to help keep moisture from going above the plasterboard. There must be an air gap between the PIR and the roof tiles for ventilation.

    Recessed LED light strips

Thanks flameport. The strip will be formed as a rectangle and will be around total length 19 metres - would a single transformer be enough for this do you think? When I'm referring to light output - I'm thinking can they match say 10 spotlights instead with the above for example? I could get...
