CCU on kitchen island - in or outside of cupboards?

OK I now understand. The metal conduit's inner diameter is over an inch and its seems to be arrow straight and clear of any blockages. Hopefully I can pull the cable through that!

CCU on kitchen island - in or outside of cupboards?

Hi ban-all-sheds, Not sure what you mean when you say "can't see you being able to pull T/E through, so it will need containment"? Steve

CCU on kitchen island - in or outside of cupboards?

There's a steel conduit buried in the concrete floor going from the side of the kitchen across to the area under the island base units. The intention was to then exit the steel conduit under the island units and take the cables into plastic mini-trunking fixed to the surface of the flooring in...

CCU on kitchen island - in or outside of cupboards?

What is the standard approach for fitting a CCU on a kitchen island? In particular:- (a) Is it within regulations to fit the CCU inside one of the cupboards or does the switch have to be on one of the sides of the island in order that it is easily accessible? (b) If it needs to be on the...

Single oven connection to existing kitchen ring

Firstly, thanks for the replies. The summary therefore seems to be that I will be within regulations if I ensure the oven is below 13A but the breaker is likely to trip with lots of applicances running. It's not ideal but I may run with this solution for now given that this is a secondary...

Is the following within regulations..... Fitting a built-in single oven connected to the kitchen ring main on its own spur from the ring?. The final connection will be either (a) The oven's 3-pin plug in a socket on the spur (if the oven has a plug fitted) or (b) oven flex wired into an...

Oak flooring - How many different lengths is normal?

I've just received some new oak flooring. The boxes say they contain "random lengths". I've opened several boxes and all of them only have two different lengths. Is this normal? Confused. Steve

    Isolation switches for kitchen island

Firstly, Thanks for the replies, much obliged. Response... 1. Regarding "Fabric" of building. This seems to appear in a lot of posts on various forums but I couldn't find a link to a specific electrical regulation or other type of regulation. Maybe a big red herring! 2. Reason(s)...

    Isolation switches for kitchen island

Does this look sensible? Specifically, isolation switches on the side of the island? I like this approach because (a) Switches aren't too close to the ovens/hob (b) Switches aren't too far away from the ovens/hob (2m is now guidance I believe and not a reg) (c) Switches are not above...

Any tips on how to fit beading on small windows?

Thanks for the tips gents. After struggling for hours trying to bend the beads I cut 'V' notches as advised. I then pre-bent the beads enough to get the corner in and they went straight in.

Any tips on how to fit beading on small windows?

I need to replace a broken double glazed glass unit. The windows are Rehau 70mm. The window is a small fan light, with relatively short beads. These were a pig to remove. I'm finding that re-fitting the beads is a nightmare!I'm concerned that I may break the new glass when I try to re-fit the...

The 'right' fixings for coupling doors and windows?

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. There's a 7mm thick aluminium coupling bar, maybe I'll need to pilot drill it? like the idea of fixing from window side for cleaner finish but I was going to do fixings both ways so that I have thes stronger screw head fixes on both sides. Do the...

The 'right' fixings for coupling doors and windows?

What are the correct fixings that should be used to 'couple' a door and window together AND what's the right way to do this? I can't find any information on what's correct apart from the odd note about using screws. So, specifically.. (a) Are screws the correct method? (b) If screws are...

The right way to fix the bottom of UPVC windows?

How is the bottom of a UPVC window supposed to be fixed to the brick or blockwork underneath? I've noticed that several window installation company web-sites suggest that you must not drill through the bottom of the window profile to fix the bottom of the window down. If you can't do this...
