    Evil slugs

You can buy nematoads - not sure of spelling - that you water onto the soil. These it appears are microscopic parisites that get into the slug and kill them. I seem to recall a company called Defenders selling them - there must be articles on them on organic gardening web sites. Or, get a...

    Searching for doors?

You should be able to get the doors made at a local joinery firm - they may also be able to source the hardware. If not a good builders merchant or a proper ironmongers should have contacts for this kind of thing. This is the kind of stuff the DIY sheds never have. Try Google and enter door...

    3-Way Dimmer Switch

Glad you got it sorted. I presume you mean you had initially removed the intermediate switch and not a 2 way switch. The "2 2way switches" I put in my original post referred to the fact that you have two switches that are 2 way and one intermediate switch on a 3 way lighting circuit.

    Wooden Flooring Help

Obviously a lot depends on the quality of the floor you choose. Unfinished wood gives you a choice of finishes ie oil, varnish etc, wheras the pre-finished is whatever the manufacturer puts on. Gluing direct to floor is OK if floor is sound and flat - underlay can even out a few minor bumps...

    3-Way Dimmer Switch

I am not an electrician but I think you will find that your 3 way switching is made up of 2 2 way switches and an intermediate switch. I would imagine you could replace one of the 2 ways with a 2 way dimmer. As I say, I am not an electrician so get this verified first!

    Open Plan Staircase

Is it a lot more expensive to have the stairs built to order? A custom made set should fit quite easily whereas an off the shelf set may need a lot of work to make fit - particularly with any turns etc. You may find a local joinery firm who specialise in stairs who could custom build them at a...

    boiler in shower room

What about the electrical connections to the boiler - could these may be a problem if it is a shower room? Maybe not but it is worth checking out first.

    Garden fence.

I agree it does seem odd that you would have to go onto you neighbours property to finish putting up the fence. Also how can a fence you have paid for and erected become someone elses due to its orientation? If the neighbours don't like the side of the fence they can see then they could always...

    Mains Halogen lights - cable

Cheers Breezer - The only problem with that may be the fact that I have limited access to each lamp location as there is a tiled floor above so this may mean excessively long cables particularly from the furthest lamps as I am having to work from one end. Would there be an advantage to use 1mm...

    Mains Halogen lights - cable

Thanks for the reply Breezer. Is there any advantage of using a larger cable in this sort of set up with 6 lamps? I was trying to avoid using junction boxes by looping the lamps together - the connector blocks supplied are just about big enough but the covers wont fit back on with 2 bits of 1.5...

    Mains Halogen lights - cable

I am currently installing some 50w mains halogen lights - the instructions say to loop the wiring from lamp to lamp with 2 x 0.75mm cable. I assume the stuff sold by Screwfix http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?ts=25976&id=14444 or similar will be adequate - there is only around 1.5m...

Boiler keeps cutting out..... Any ideas ?

Is the pressure setting on the gauge on the boiler set correctly and is it maintaining a constant pressure - ie not losing pressure. My boiler is 1-1.5 bar when cold rising as the water is heated - yours may be different. If the system is losing pressure then the boiler will switch off. Was the...

    Uplighters in the floor

The original site I posted was for a company called Lyco - I got one of their catalogues through the post but I have never bought from the yet. If you look on their site and enter E3639 it should come up with the light details. I will not post the site address as it probably get deleted again...

    Leaking System?

I had similar problem with my Saunier Duval combi. It turned out to be the pressure vessel that was shot. They contain some kind of "balloon" that is pressurised - on mine it could be checked with a car tyre valve - I tried to repressurise mine but it needed the whole thing replacing £100+ but...

    Ceramic Towel Bar Removal

It all depends on how it is fixed. I assume it is not screwed to the wall. Is it fixed to tiles or directly to the wall with tiles around it? Either way if it is glued on there is going to be a bit of making good after it is removed. A chisel and hammer or an SDS drill with chisel bit would be...

Cheers for that Breezer! I will be more specific in future.

    concrete fence posts

I would get a length of treated timber the same height as the panel and the same thickness as the fence panel/slot 2" x 2" ish should be OK and plane or cut to the required angle along its length. Then screw this to the end of the panel (angled face to the panel) This will then allow the square...

    Combi Boiler Problems

I have already replied but it seems to have been deleted. £200 is probably not too bad a price considering the potential cost if you get it wrong as all parts on combis seem to be expensive. It would be worth pricing up the part though and I would get a few quotes from reputable engineers who...

    Uplighters in the floor

Are we not allowed to provide links to sites that may be useful to answer questions? A couple of answers I have given with links appear to have been deleted. They must have appeared at some point as Breezer as referenced one site in his reply. If there is a reason for this then OK, it's your...

fixing fencing to old concrete posts

I have just re-read your post and as the concrete posts are as tall as the trellis you intend to fit you could possibly forget the wooden posts and attach the arris rails directly to the concrete posts with joist hangers. This would depend on the holes on the posts being roughly in line so you...
