    Plaster Directly On Electric Cabling

If the cable is run in the safe zone as mentioned already, there is no need for any protection for this cable. Capping is advised where someone else is doing the plastering later to avoid trowel damage. Chiselling into the brickwork is to be avoided for cable runs, since it weakens the building...

Main Header Tank: Quieter Inlet Valve

I finally cracked it with help from the maker: - Opella. They sent me a couple of parts for a simple modification to make the valve less sensitive. Now: - no noise and no hammer. Jaymack

Main Header Tank: Quieter Inlet Valve

I want to replace the ball float valve, in the main cold water tank. I need a quieter one since it is above a bedroom. I have tried a Torbeck, it is a lot quieter when filling; but I now have introduced a water hammer problem, mostly when shutting off. The cause of this hammering, is due to...

    RCD Testing

To add to the topic. For TT installations, where there is a main time delayed RCD (with typical EF trip currents of 100 to 500mA), in addition to another downstream (say 30mA EF trip current for sockets etc), it is necessary to ensure time discrimination. A 3:1 discrimination ratio is...

    Earthing Cable

For the record, the size of the main equipotential bonding conductor is dependent on the size of the supplier's main fuse, 10 sqmm is ok for 60 to 80 A but 16 sqmm is reguired for 100A. Modern electricians? There is up to date; and not so up to date electricians, IMO, the latter should not...

    Tripping RCD by neighbour's mower

The MK site doesn't list this item number, is it a voltage operated ELCB?, (these are no longer acceptable and may be a reason for your problems). Can you post all the details on the existing unit or post a photo? if a voltage operated ELCB, there should a tail connected to earth. Jaymack

testing circuits before doing work on them

My previous post refers: - Sorry, I misread your question. It is preferable to test for insulation values and Zs at least, on the circuit that you are proposing to work on. You then have a record of before and after your work. If there is a problem with the results, and you have no record...
