    Concrete stair landing

Hi, what used to be a hairline crack on the stair landing of the garden stairs is now a 'split' with a big chunk out of it due to the frost / weather over the last year. There's no chance of replacing it but I would like to repair it, what is the best mix? I don't imagine normal cement...

    Choice of jigsaw

I think the majority have the pendulum action and the scrolling feature is another option on certain models. You need the scrolling feature whereby you can actually turn the blade direction whilst cutting, for cutting out shapes. Black & Decker do such models.

    Dishwasher - little water entering

If you don't see any blockages, try 'tapping' the valve. If that does'nt work then your best bet is to change the solenoid valve itself, they are only about £20 and not too difficult to do(2-screws)! ................. I had the same problem a few months back

    Installing Halogen Lights

If you are very careful in cutting out the holes and the plaster on the lathe is not to 'crumbly' then you might get away with it! ...this is assuming that you are fitting the small recess type and you have ample area above as the cables and transformer will have to be inserted within it. A...

    Heating question

If you have a crawl space under the floor then there is no problem, but if you have to lift the floorboards the you will need a good 'feather splitter'. this is a flat headed chisel very similar to a 'brickies bolster' but narrower. With this you have to split the feather (tongue & groove)...

adding a new light to cupboard under stairs

Re: 'The expert electrician in the local suppliers didn't share that with me. He told me to wire from the junction box to the switch...then from the switch to the ceiling rose !!' That is an option and if the junction box is nearer to the switch then it would be easier. If you go for this...

    BUILDING A BBQ

I built one a few years ago and also included a brick frame onto the side with a 3 x2 concrete paving slab as a 'table top' eventually tiled the top, looks good and very handy for the usual utensils etc. ... worth thinking about. Remember to ensure you have a good concrete base down first!

    Nasty Plastic Tile

If it's a drywall ie. Gyproc / plasterplate then I don't think there is an easy way to get ithe adhesive off without damaging the wall, it might be worth putting a 'skim' of plaster over the whole lot

    Central Heating Wiring

Re:the thermostat / cylinder stat req. 3-cores (no earth), your quite correct. sometimes they need a nuetral / live / switchwire depending on the type or make, in this case you could use 1.0mm 3-core & earth cable. Depending on the type of central heating you have your best bet is to run the...

    Fuse Box

When you say 'fairly new clip in fuses' do you mean mini circuit breakers (MCB's) which trip and to reset you push the lever up? What you should do first is remove the fuses (or MCB's) from the attic unit, keep the main switch for it on then put them back one at a time to find out what...

    Additional Lights

I should have mentioned in previous reply that L2 used to be the terminal used in switches for 1-way applications but for some reason they have now opted for the L1 terminal ...so if you are buying and fitting a new switch then it's very likely that L1 and NOT L2 will be the required terminal...

    Additional Lights

Check what cables you have at your switch ... there's a possibility that the feed from the consumer unit goes to the switch first then up to the light. If this is the case then there will be a nuetral joint behind the switch and it is only a case of running your new cable to the security light...
