    printer driver

I have a friend who has an old PC running on WindowsXP. It is not connected to the internet as she does not have any internet connection. She wants to connect a printer. None come with a Cd of drivers these days. Would it be possible for me to download the drivers and save them to a USB stick...

    External lighting question

you can get those lantern lights from screwfix without the PIR is you don't need a PIR. They look good but do take a while to put together. Each piece of glass needs to be fitted. Once all together with an LED lamp they should work well. Check what lamps are needed. I've got 8 of them...

    Rodent damage to cables?

Exactly. My invoice reflected my feelings and included the price of a new set of overalls.

    Rodent damage to cables?

I can't see any sign of rat droppings in your pictures. In my limited experience they seem to s**t as they chew and leave loads of smelly evidence. I think one of my worst experiences was lying in a loft repairing cables that rats had damaged and suddenly half a dozen of them ran over my back...

    Fused Spurs within Kitchen Unit

Is the shelf fixed? In my kitchen units the shelves are on small pins so they can be adjusted. I would not mount any electrical item on them. Why not have them on the wall behind the unit with an access hole in the back of the unit?

    I Have Just Bought...

Just use it when doing any work. Show the building inspector the book that proves everything is up to standard. No need for earths or anything similar on lighting circuits. If you are a decent electrician you will leave a supply of fuse wire with your customer after wiring their house.

    Decking options

3.6 m is the length of many decking boards so you are off to a good start. I've used decking for a few different things like fences and my front porch. If you want a really different loo try alternating the board so the first shows grooves and the next smooth side. It would be different.

    Containing brambles

20200905_183125 by john4703 posted 5 Sep 2020 at 7:20 PM I have taken your advice and built this large container. It is on concrete blocks so clear of the ground. I now need to fill it with soil and plant some brambles. It is well away from any other productive part of our garden.

    Enclosure for contactors

I was thinking of a CU enclosure but all the ones I found had a main switch which I don't need.

    Enclosure for contactors

Thanks for all the replies. The enclosures that Rocky and Bernard suggested look good. As you are warning me that these run warm if I use these I'll space them out. I was using these contactors as they are neat and easy, I've used them before for lighting. I want one for each zone and they...

    Enclosure for contactors

I’ve been looking at the heating system in the church I attend. Very easy to do during lockdown. It is a mess and I will sort it out. I really want to scrap most of the old stuff and replace it with something that will work. I will need to use 5 contactors and was thinking of these from...

Manhole cover & decking - what's the guidelines?

I put down a load of decking behind a church. There were two inspection chambers under the decking. I simply framed the joists so there was not a joist over the inspection cover and then laid decking with strips of decking screwed under it so it was one piece to cover the inspection chamber.

    Containing brambles

They are next to where we grow onions or pea and beans. My concern is roots travelling underground. The above ground stuff is easy to control. We used to have them in a different place but decked that area and built a summerhouse on top. I used to cut them right back to ground level every...

    Containing brambles

I want to plant some brambles and keep them contained in one area of my garden. As far as I know they spread in two ways. 1. The roots spread underground. 2. The branches lie on the ground and form roots and spread. The second is easy to cope with, I just need to remove any shoots that...

    Loose backbox plug socket

I've dealt with that sort of problem before. You should be able to get two or three screws into the noggin on the left. On the right I put two pieces of wood behind the plasterboard they were covered in glue so stuck to the back of the plasterboard. The back of those pieces of wood was level...

    12v fan on caravan

I am thinking of putting it in the door of the locker where the toilet cassette is. That way any nasty smells get pulled out.
