URGENT - Hyrdrogn in NEW Central Heat Systm.

You obvioiusly ( :D ) went to the wrong chemistry class. You will infact find that water alone does not rust iron. It is the air dissolved in the water that causes the rust. Boiling removes the air from the water. This is why electrolysis has been suggested as the cause, because water...

Weird question about living above a boiler.....

OK, alright, oilman. You may not but most people do.

Weird question about living above a boiler.....

The worst that could happen is fire, or explosion if the boiler is gas. However, this is very unlikely, and not really a cause for concern; after all, everyone has a boiler in their house. But I would definately insist that the manager gets the boiler checked out, and you either talk to the...

URGENT - Hyrdrogn in NEW Central Heat Systm.

If you're sure it's Hydrogen, it must be some sort of chemical reaction. Unfortunately, i'm not a chemist, and I cant help you with exactly where or why the gas is being produced. I'd just leave the system alone (i.e. turned off), until you get, like oilman suggests, some concrete facts about...

    Cooker Cable

Forget small monetary savings. Use 6sqmm for all of the run to the cooker to save having to change MCBs. Next, add a fused connection unit to the end of the cable, and run the cooker from this. Repeat this last step for another feed to the fan.

Size of mcbs for ring of sockets and radial

"Why should the purpose of the sockets have anything to do with it? It depends on what gets plugged into the sockets doesn't it?" Yes... Funny... The reason the purpose of the sockets matters, is beacuse 16amp may not be sufficient to run a couple of kettles and a cooker off.... alright, i'm...

    Booming Boiler!!!

What are you implying here. I might ask you to consider what would happen to the equation if there wasn't 2x O2 but only 1x O2. So go get your chemistry book out... You're left with CO (carbon monoxide: peaceful death, for sure) and Carbon (which causes blackening of surfaces)

Power flush or chemical flush ?

OK, oilman. I was just 'taking the mick' (because youre name is oilman, and you 'suggested' people look at oil aswell as gas). But still, compared to gas, oil is not as cheap.

Size of mcbs for ring of sockets and radial

You don't indicate the purpose of the radial circuits, nor the current amperage of the MCB/fuse, nor the reason for replacing the CU, and nor the reason you ask this of us (i.e. I'll help you, but you don't sound particurlarly competent if you ask these questions, so watch you dont bug*er it up).

    bathroom extractor fan

To wire this thing off the ring main:- 1. Find the nearest ring main cable to connect to. 2. Attach a fused spur (perhaps 3amp fuse). 3. Run cable from this to the DP (double pole) pullcord. 4. Run cable out of this pullcord to your light, and the same again for the fan.

    Boiler Noise

Did you drain the anti-scaler out of the system? Just a thought. I am told that kettling is a big problem with "mature" installations; I am also told that there is no real way do dispose of it, without replacing the boiler.

    bathroom extractor fan

Triple pole? That's a new one. I recall only having a live and neutral feed into my house... Either way, if the fan's wattage ain't too high, you can wire it up to your light. But you might consider making the light and fan a spur off the ring main, because lighting curcuits are designed...

Power flush or chemical flush ?

Consider oil? Come on, oilman; this is blatant bias on your part... But on a serious note, you may find that the super-reliability suggested by oilman, is in fact offset by the super-bloodsucking cost of oil compared to gas. And when I say bloodsucking, I'm serious; you might...

    extending a shower cable

Although you have good suggestions, they are totally unnecessary. First, how many people have the skill or indeed inclination to check every electrical connection in their house? Second, how many people use the pull cord instead of the shower button to turn the shower off? Third, if all...

Weird question about living above a boiler.....

Clearly there is a problem, and I suggest you make him fix it. I see your flag is a US one, so perhaps threatening to enforce with legal action might persuade him.

    extending a shower cable

I assume it is DIY work, eh? 3 times you say, eh? I think you've had a good run if it's burned 3 times without serious consequence. I suggest you leave it alone, before not only your cable is burned out, but your house aswell. On the other hand, if a pro did the job, I'd sue the a*se off...

    Booming Boiler!!!

See if the flames are burning with a very orange colour, or are mostly blue. If it's orange, you got a problem. If it's blue, no problem for you. Ha! that last bit rhymes....
