Shifting trapped air from CH after re-fill?

I do not know, the system may just have been badly piped up?? It is still the same .... maybe i'll do the back fill

    noisy boiler

how would a sluggish or partially blocked pump cause these noises? how would you check? am asking as i have had similar noises on start up but never though of it being a pump!

Shifting trapped air from CH after re-fill?

Hi Can some please offer me some advice: I am re-filling my CH system today after a drain down but it seems to be taking ages to re-fill. Upstairs are the ones - downstairs seems ok but upstairs I have vented rads and hear hissing but no water yet, one rad just a few splutters. Is this...

    Potterton Netaheat problem ???

What's a positive pressure boiler? What's the difference? Sorry to jump this post-was just curcious? Do you mean positive pressure fan?

    single check valve

it is a Water Regulations requirement (law) that mixer taps with different pressures (ie mains cold and hot water from a cistern) - that mix water IN THE BODY, to have single check valves installed on BOTH the hot and cold pipes. this will stop your problem though and satisfy the Regs!

Noises in the pipes when I flush.

turning down the outside stopcock (cut off tap)? will not reduce the pressure, just the flow rate.

    open vent to sealed system

the advantage of a sealed system is that the only way air can get into the system is through a leak! but as your system is working ok, leave it as it is!! to change, you'd need to drain, cut out the cold feed and vent to the header tank and remove the header tank. cap off the tees. add an...

    Potterton Puma 80 problems

If the flow switch is stuck, when you turn your hw tap off, you may get htg on, depending on whtether the diverter valve is also stuck or not!!

1 Rad requires venting every 6 weeks!

I sleep in there!! I do like the curry pot noodles to be honest! :)

    radiators

Te gate valve on the & e tank: was it on the cold feed pipe (which is not allowed anyway)? if so - are the compression nuts tightly done up - small micro leaks which allow no water out but air in, can have a build up which causes air build up regularly in the system.

    Intermittent hot water

if the coil in the cylinder was scaled up then you would get hot water at normal pressures as before, just it would take longer to heat up and you may get a lower temp. it is usual for the pipe leaving the top o the hot water cylinder to get scaled up, especially in hard water areas, over...

1 Rad requires venting every 6 weeks!

Minor prob but as i'm online would like to ask your expert opinions if i may?: one of my bedrooms (upsatirs) requires venting every 6 weeks or so.. it is the only one that requires this. Is this common? The system is open vented, the static head of the pump if good as is the positioning...

    Intermittent hot water

need to close off cold feed to the cylinder, open hot taps fully, unscrew connection at the top of the cylinder, but may be v stiff so be careful, have a bucket ready also, then you will probably see the scale build up, which you will have to remove, or if too bad, cut out the section required...

    Intermittent hot water

probably a build up of limescale, usually in the pipe that leaves the how water cylinder then - may have noticed a gradual in flow overtime from your hot water taps.

    Gravity HW questions/regulations?

2 means of escape? so you mean 2 vent pipes and cold feeds, one directly to the boiler, and 1 tee'd off from the hw flow? I'm not attempting an solid fuel installation was just trying to get my head around the regs and how the systems work, am just interested really. is there 2 separate...

    Gravity HW questions/regulations?

I believe you can use a tap stat (like a trv) on the primary return from the cylinder can't you though??

    Gravity HW questions/regulations?

I understand that, but i just wondered if you could have a cyl stat and 2 port as well... Also, with a 4 tapping boiler: is it usual to have 2 header tanks (1 for hw and 1 for the HTG side) or just 1 larger header tank with 2 vent pipes and 2 cold feeds?

    Gravity HW questions/regulations?

Thanks for helping. So you are allowed to fit a cylinder stat AND a 2port on a semi gravity sold fuel system to hw?? but with the stat closing the 2 port, the excess heat path from the SF boiler to the cylinder may be closed off? Is it also usual/easier to have 2 header tanks with a semi...

    Gravity HW questions/regulations?

Can anyone help me with a few questions regarding gravity fed hot water please? With a C-PLAN (gravity hot water & fully pumped heating) - is a 4 tapping boiler required or can a standard 2 tapping boiler be used? Obviously there will be an anti gravity valve installed somewhere after...
