    Suspended ceiling

Sorry - didn't have a watch on the thread. For the L trim round the edge, we screwed timber (not sure of size but probably about 75mm x 10mm) horizontally round the room then just screwed the L trim to that timber ensuring that the bottom of the L trim was more or less flush with the bottom...

    Suspended ceiling

Assume you're asking how you attach supports ? What we did was as follows for each point where we wanted to attach suspension points: Screw 2x1 batten across joists so that middle is vertically above the point you want to suspend - drill vertical hole through wood just a little wider than wire...

    Cutting deck boards

Thanks - yes - I do hold it upright, use the finger support etc - was taught properly. Can't use a circular saw as boards are fixed in place, with posts ect in the way and want a very straight cut. Generally use hard point saws - 7 or 10 teeth per inch. Cutting across, stright up and...

suggestions please for a cordless drill for diy use

I'm a fairly heavy DIY user and use a Worx rechargeable from Argos. Think this make was a Which best buy as well. Mine came with 2 x 1hr charge batteries, keyless chuck can be tightened one handed. Has had a lot of use, eg battening, plasterboarding, decking - hammer function is also OK...

    Cutting deck boards

This is probably going to seem like a daft question but one to which I'd love to get an answer. I'm in the middle of building a deck (approx 60 deck boards) and am having trouble cutting across the deck boards - they are 4.8m x 145mm x 28mm. Each time I saw them, I get about a quarter in...

Problem bolting vertical post to wall

Hi I'm trying to bolt vertical 90mmx90mm posts to an existing slabbed patio wall and they will act as ballustrades for a deck on top of the patio. I was going to use rawlbolts with hex heads M10 going into the brick 65mm (and taking max fixture 75mm, ie I'd rebate into the post). The...

    black rubber

Our house also had twin core rubber with external earth in multi core as part of the installation - think this was from the 1950's. Some of the insulation was perished, couldn't be sure about earth continuity etc. It has all now been replaced.

Attaching joist bearers to vertical posts

Many thanks Megawatt. Hadn't thought about rebating the top - good idea. Reason I went for M10 was that Screwfix only seem to have M10 in exterior coach bolts but I'll have a look for other suppliers. Cheers :D
