    DIY Router Table

Thanks. I thought it would help keep the wood straight when pushing it through the cutter to give a neat cut throughout. If I were to put on the fence would it be better behind or in line with the cutter for this kind of work? And with your example above would the fence need to be able to...

Thanks for the response. At the moment it's going to be bull nosing and rounding over edges. So all edges will be straight. Thanks James

    Cutting Angles

Thanks I will give them a go. I was thinking if there is an estimate that people use when using angles as it would be worth knowing. If I tested a cut at 45 degrees would this then be the same as a 30 degree cut for the width of cut or would I need to test for each angle I do? Thanks James

    Cutting Angles

Hello, When cutting angles I always end up with the wood being smaller than I need. Is there an estimate that would allow this regardless of the angle? For example when I setup my tablesaw I set the guide to the size of wood I have and lock it in place. When I cut it I seem to lose some of...

    Avoiding Wood Splitting

Hello, I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions / guidance on how to avoid wood splitting. Whenever I use my SDS drill with a hole saw / forstner bit the wood always seems to split on the opposite side to me drilling. I have tried applying less pressure, slowing the drill down throughout...

    Joining metal together

I'm not sure how you mean? If you mean have it in the middle and the rivet going through one piece the joining plate and through the last piece would this not still leave the unfinished edge of a pop rivet? Or am I misunderstanding you? Thanks James

    Joining metal together

Hello, I am looking at joining two pieces of galvanised sheet metal (1mm each) together. This is for an animal cage as they have chewed through the wood so I am wanting to put metal sides on a piece of sheet metal I have. As I have no welding gear and have never welded in my life I was looking...

    Socket Spacer Plates

Yes I understand there are issues with it and when I find the other sockets which are set like this I will swap them all to the correct wiring standards. I am replacing the other sockets around the house so when I find the other cables which do this I will swap them over first confirming the...

    Socket Spacer Plates

Thanks for that I have the kewcheck one. After changing any socket I use it to confirm the socket is wired correctly. I did this with the above socket and it gave a continuous sound with all three lights on the front stating it's wired correctly. I have just wired it the correct way using the...

    Socket Spacer Plates

Ok to clarify a few things... The old socket was connected as shown in the picture. I did check the labels on the terminals to confirm and made sure they went to the correct terminals. I checked after connection and the socket tester says it's cabled correctly. I still think it's wrong and I am...

    Socket Spacer Plates

The problem is that the back boxes are too shallow. The cables are also the wrong colour for what they do but that's another job for another day. I have attached a picture of the socket below.
