Did I do the right thing?

Firstly I'm not a plumber, but I do a bit of plumbing when I fit kitchens/bathrooms etc. Right. My sister-in-law phoned in desperation, her heating wasn't working properly and she had no hot water. BG had come and said there was c**p in the system and will need to be flushed, and they dont do...

    handymen - not so handy!

The trouble with the word Handyman is it implies that he's unable to do a trade and is relegated to odd jobs that the trades can't be bothered with. I prefer multi trade. I'm sure there's lots of useless handymen out there, but I know there are loads of rough as f*** over priced trades people...

best fixing into lath & plaster walls

This is a tricky one, If you have the type of shelf where the attaching points are adjustable try to hit the studwork with your screws(easier said than done) If you screw into laths the screw should hold , if you miss the lath you'll need to use those spiral plasterboard type fixings, It also...

    Re-using 'stuff'

The last time I fitted a kitchen I used a length of copper pipe that was lying around, It turned out to have a load of dirt in it and a small stone got stuck in the tap. it took me a couple of hours to get it out. I was trying to save the customer money.I've learnt my lesson now.

    First drill!

don't be tempted by b&qs own brand cordless, I borrowed my old mans the other day because my charger had broken down. even tho it looked like a drill, it didn't work anything like a drill should. If you've got £50-£70 go for corded, if you've got £100 get ryobi, or £250 milwaukee

    Wash basin waste question

Hi, I have a 110mm waste running from the toilet to a vertical soil pipe (inside the house) . Is there any reason I cannot plumb a 35mm waste from a basin into the 110mm wc pipe that runs horizontal-ish , and underneath the basin. using a strap on boss. thanks.

new drill/driver combi milwaukee or makita???

The new milwaukee lithium batteries will fit your loc-tor, but you'll need a new charger. I heard makita have not made their lithium batteries compatable with their older tools. which may have peeved some of their customers.

    Gripfill at B&Q

I've paid as much as £25 a box in the past. about £18 normally these days. If my sums are right the B&Q stuff would work out at £17.80 a box(normal size tubes) which is pretty good value I suppose.

    Gripfill at B&Q
