Thank you for your reply Ray, seems like my thoughts are worth doing. You make no mention of a pump, but I guess the combi has on inside?

    Boiler size for underfloor heating

We need to heat a new room with partially vaulted ceiling with floor area of 35 square meters and are considering underfloor heating with it's own boiler so as not to labour the existing system. We are considering a small combi boiler that could also supply the kitchen sink. Is there any way of...

    Downpipe into clay pipe?

Thanks for the reply, I never thought of connecting with a flexible coupling, good idea. The downpipe goes into what I think is a clay " p trap" that is nicely concreted in and the clay tiles follow from there to the manhole. As the clay tiles are full of roots they need rodding out, hence the...

    Downpipe into clay pipe?

We have tree roots blocking the clay pipes that run into a manhole. The plan is to dig out and fit new "p traps" with rodding access points. How can the pvc 110mm pipe be connected to the old clay pipe. Here's a few picks Your comment will be much appreciated

    How to find a builder

Help required please. This is our first venture into having building work done for a 7x5 meter single story extension. We have planning permission, and the building regs. drawings are complete, we have had several quotations and the prices vary by 100% so which builder do you choose? The highest...

    Advice- Building regulations procedure

Today I made a full application, the difference in cost is negligible but with increased insulation rags changing it could prove prudent. A completion cert will be issued if I instruct that the other work will not be undertaken.

    Advice- Building regulations procedure

Thanks Woody, so my first application will cover one half of building work and get signed off. In a couple of years I'll submit a new application for the remaining work. Is this acceptable?

    Advice- Building regulations procedure

For my own peace of mind I will get the most comprehensive drawings for clarity( using a different agent ) for only the half of the building work and submit these. Will these then be signed off? At a later stage ( years) would I then need to submit a further set for the rest? I understand the...

    Advice- Building regulations procedure

Hi, planning permission has been granted to extend both sides of our chalet bungalow, however only one side is required at this time to extend the kitchen area by 50 Square Meter, rendered block and pitched tiled roof construction. Challet bungalow roof insulation question

I'm just recovering from Christmas and thinking of starting work soon. I'm looking for a way of cutting the plasterboard neat and tidy and without and mess and dust, is there a machine I can use? Was thinking of using my circular saw with the blade speed reduced and connect it to a vacuum...

    Challet bungalow roof insulation question

Sounds a good idea, slide some 50mm celotex straight in. I can't do that so I guess the plasterboard is going to have to come off.

    Challet bungalow roof insulation question

How can the sloping roof of a chalet bungalow roof be insulated? At present the flat ceiling and the upright walls are insulated with a mixture of 100mm mineral wool and celotex , the sloping part of the ceiling has none. What can be done, the rafters are 100mmx50mm and covered obviously in...

    Exterior board what's the best

Some products I've not seen before, thanks for the links. Guessing the cost will be high, more than marine ply?

    Exterior board what's the best

Hi folks, I'm looking for advice as to what board will last the longest against the elements. It's for use in the garden as a piece of " garden art"and will be painted. This is one I made years ago and needed painting every year but the ply used has deteriorated and now flaking. Thanks Steve

Looking for a well insulated door

I agree, maybe a fire door with 25mm PIV insulation secured to the garage side of the door would be a solution?

Looking for a well insulated door

Thanks for your reply, I see Wickes sell fire doors and frames that have 30 minute rating with groove for intumescent strips so probably will go with those but, nobody mentions how thermally efficient the doors are? To be honest I was thinking of UPVC, is it necessary to be a fire door?

Looking for a well insulated door

I need to replace a personal door that has no window from the internal entrance hall into the garage. The garage is always freezing cold, the wooden frame is rotten and the door is draughty with lots of heat lost. What would be a good replacement at the lowest cost? Many thanks
