Pipe freezing - Electric or Gas?

I am about to embark on a major kitchen refit which involves pulling up a large tiled floor, moving and renewing pipework to a number of radiators which have had the copper put straight into wet concrete in the late 70's. Having drilled through one of these pipes by accident and having to renew...

    skoda turbo problem

I have a Seat Alhambra 1.9TDi. I have had the car for three years and 12 trips to a main dealer still haven't sorted this!! It's even had a new Seat engine during this time. Anyway I digress. I have done a LOT of research on this topic. As the previous posts suggest 99% of the time it is the...

Replacing R80 spotlights with something smaller

I have this problem as well all over my house. In the places where I have replaced them I have filled the old holes in and repositioned the lights. To fill the holes in, cut a circle of plasterboard. Take a piece of wooden batten about 3" longer than the hole diameter and push up inside the hole...

    Hands free question

Hi. That does seem strange as the 6230i is really a slightly enhanced 6230. I looked at the Nokia Support forum www.nokia.com and this appears to be a common problem.

    Boarding above an AGA

Thanks for the plasterboard tip. The area is slightly larger than this. Can the boards be taped and skimmed or are there any restrictions on how it can be finished in this application?

    Boarding above an AGA

Apologies if this in in the wrong category. I am about to refurbish my kitchen and I have a 4 oven AGA which is in an old fireplace. The fireplace is boarded out above the AGA with something painted white. Could be wood or could be fireproof, but it has been done in sections quite badly and...

    plastering over existing finish.

Yes you can do it. Apply PVA mixed at 3:1 with a roller. Let it dry, then another coat at 2:1 and skim with Multifinish while PVA still tacky.

    Cleaning a Aluminium feather edge

Hey Thermo - top tip the steel wool worked a treat. I tried the glasspaper but it tends to score the aluminium a bit.

    Cleaning a Aluminium feather edge

I rendered a wall a couple of weeks ago and forgot to pick up my feather edge when I went home. Of course when I did it was covered in dried on render (sand + cement). I have chipped away a large portion of it but want to clean off the residue. Anyone got any tips on how I could do this or do I...

    Ideas please for remote breaker

To answer both replies (Thanks BTW) Concentric cable - Ah OK that makes sense and would seem like a good idea. The pole is on land owned by my sister right next to a river. The place is just outside Barnstaple near Bratton Flemming. (I grew up in Westward Ho!). Swap it for Basingstoke...

    Ideas please for remote breaker

I am a bit short of the facts at the moment as I live about 200 miles away but the meter is also in the box. From this I would summise that the fuse probably does belong to the REC. Having said that, I know that they have taken up to 4 days to come out before. Given the choice I think I would...

    Ideas please for remote breaker

My sister lives in the country in Devon and her electricity supply comes to a pole about 400-500yds from the house in a field. On the pole is a single pole breaker and a fuse (60A) in a ceramic holder. From here the live and neutral go back up the pole and then overhead through trees and over a...
