    Soil pipe boss

This OP received much advice, from various people, about this same CI stack back in Sept 2011, he then disappeared with no word as to what happened next. Sept 11 2011, "Cracked cast iron soil vent pipe"

    smelly kitchen

As John says "how do you know?" What was leaking - waste, soil or water? How are your sink and apps plumbed in for waste drainage - do they go outside to a gulley or into another pipe? Is a Garbage Disposal being used? Is the D/W waste line going high before connecting to it's spigot? Is...

Edit: Now replacing floorboards in bathroom floor

AAMOI: perhaps this post should be posted in the Building Forum, or the Flooring Forum?

Edit: Now replacing floorboards in bathroom floor

    1. Your floor appears to be a mix of traditional floorboards, and chipboard. The flooring appears to run under the partition walls. 2. Why was the bathroom compartment raised 5" or 7"? Is it in an attic? And why the strange carcassing/joisting below? Why is the below floor pipework exposed...

cracks in wall of potential house am buying?

AAMOI: you have a hat trick of crack signatures; horizontal, vertical and zig-zag.

cracks in wall of potential house am buying?

Who is this building surveyor who inspects and submits a report on the same saturday? Is she/he RICS? As mentioned above, the cracking is severe, and any surveyor should indicate - no matter the significance - the cause or origin of structural faults. Research on here.

A piece of pebbledash has fallen off my house :(

I'd suggest that you should first investigate and determine how and why the pebble dash failed. Perhaps its just a glip at that point, but it could be something more widespread. Research on here.

    Dormer Repairs

Ref. the prices for the work described. There is no way that we would do either quotes for such cheap prices. Figure for labour only £200 per man per day. Thats for any respectable one man band or small jobbing builders. All roofing, esp. ladder work should be two man work. The cost to go...

HELP! – Advice on water table with footings.

I'm wrong, i apologise. I agree, a drainage channel, and stronger pumps, or better, the conc.layer and inset sump should do the trick.

    hearth removal, levelling constructional hearth

I understand you better now. In that case then use a wash of PVA and water on the hearth and when tacky go over it with a mix of sand and cement . Then level it off with the existing boards. You could alternatively use a wash of soupy 1 of sand and 1 of cement.

Soot build up on brand new gas fire

fireman, with respect: you indicated earlier that no one had bothered to advise the OP to switch off because it was given as a minor matter. Not so: "turn it off. do not use it" by mysteryman, "you need to call back the fitter" by Agile, "essential for correct and safe operation" by...

HELP! – Advice on water table with footings.

noseall, with respect, the house is 100mm below sea level and situated, from what i can make out, by the seaside. Any attempted, drainage channel would only bring further water into the excavation.

    hearth removal, levelling constructional hearth

If i understand you correctly, then you've gone about this the wrong way. To bring any boarding-over up to the level of the surrounding T&G floor, you might have to take some material out of the hearth area. Determine exactly what you intend to go in the hearth recess, and work from the...

    Damp floor problems!

I cant visualise the layout plan, but because this conservatory construction has blocked off some of the air bricks for cross ventilation under the house i should start adding extra air bricks ( 9x9's ) wherever possible. Go crawl your main house and note ventilation/damp conditions. 2. If...

    wall starter

Just re-read your post, and perhaps "Twin" actually means 2 sets of Two pieces ie 4 pieces. But check it out with the seller.

    wall starter

Sounds like it, but the labelling claims on starter packs can be confusing. They typically come in 2.4m's, i think.

    hearth removal, levelling constructional hearth

You appear to have sheet vinyl and carpet floor covering - do you know what your final FFL will be? What is going into the hearth area, eg. a new hearth? Or do you intend a new floor covering to flow across the made-up hearth?

HELP! – Advice on water table with footings.

A further thought: how was your house constructed, and any recent nearby structures? Water will float damn near anything unless the thing is deep "anchored." Presumably you've already come up with some tie-down solution(s)?

HELP! – Advice on water table with footings.

This all seems a bit late in the day. There are Civil Engineering solutions, but surely you dont want to go down that route? Perhaps you are familiar with: waterproofconcrete.co.uk thisisconcrete.co.uk ref. TCC/05/19
