i understand what you mean, but they want an unswitched fuse spare whether they are off the lighting circuit or on there own mcb, im not sure why thats just what they state.

we subby for the concil and when we are installing smoke alarms we have to put a unswitched fuse spur on the circuit, yes it is stupid, like you said put them on the lighting circuit, then it would be a case of if u switch the smokes off youve got no lights, it makes perfect sence

like dingbat said do a caurse first then go from there, you could get a course and a half decent pat tester for about £500_£600
