    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

Why would my proposed solution be able to result in those consequences? ================================================= If you don't know then you aren't competent. Mod =================================================

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

Well that is a consideration for the risk vs reward assessment but not an actual answer and locking the thread would not answer it. Indeed true and I am not proposing to sell such modified part. But I see it more as maintaining a part. Your considerations would debar me from even adjusting the...

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

I absolutely agree but cannot a certified safety device be modified if the safety aspect is not altered without having the resulting item recertified?

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

I acknowledge that bit, but the gas section is not open to queries so this seemed the most likely for a gas fire query. The bit by which safety "considerations" are relied on as the sole reason to not work on a non safety non gas part. At the moment, the very tip of the electrode is absent...

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

I have re read the thread and it has already been said that the spark electrode in itself is not an essential safety component. Perhaps you could enlighten me as to what safety is compromised by its absence, failure or misfitting, unless the gas transporting components were disturbed? I respect...

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

Darwin was good at focussed thinking. I am talking about a non safety related component being fitted in a manner that does not compromise safety, so why not? Estimate of £65 for a new unit plus services of a registered engineer. Anyway I guess I was wrong to think that this section was related...

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

OK. So the choice is only between about £150 or a box of matches.? The option of a £5 electrode is not a possibility ?

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

Well it genuinely was not one on my part!

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

Thanks. Tightness in that sense is irrelevant. As the spark electrode is just a ceramic cylinder fixed in a hole in the bracket plate, why is it unreasonable to snap it and drill it out if it won't just slide out? Are you saying, though, that the ceramic electrodes are not available from anywhere?

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

All that may be factually correct, but what problem would be caused? I am doing my best to understand but would prefer an explicit explanation rather than an expletive instruction. Edit How is the replacement of the spark electrode a problem? How does the theory of the flame combustion...

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

Back from the dead, or at least another activity involving a large mobile petrol container and the change of its spark plug, I do understand the working of the assembly. Because of that, I am still quite happy to ask why the spark producing electrode is relevant to the safety of the combustion...

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

Ah, OK. That is the best but least convincing answer.

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

It may be the manufacturers policy not to supply individual components and to encourage sales of assembled units but why is it not possible or reasonable to do as I have contemplated and why does the concept of work on a minor electrical part cause such venom from some gas engineers? Perhaps...

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

Why do you say it is a sealed unit and assume I do not know how it works? The gas burner unit, the thermocouple sensor unit and the spark electrode are 3 individually manufactured parts that are then affixed to a bracket. Why would it be unreasonable to drill out the spark electrode and slip in...

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

It is just the spark electrode tip. Why does the oxy pilot need to be available only as a complete item? ( eg Thermocouples can be replaced on other equipment.) The electrode is clearly an individual component but I am not sure whether it is irremovably fixed into the whole unit. (Just for...

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

"He" says its a DIY job but that I will find a lot of gas engineers who mistakenly believe that all DIYgas work is illegal or to be discouraged, but that I may get a quick pointer from some helpful one.

    Oxy Pilot spark electrode

The spark electrode tip on my Paragon living coal 2000 gas fire has broken off. As only the complete oxy- pilot assembly is available (at a price!) and the electrode seems to be non-removable, does anyone know whether it is possible to replace it with a generic electrode, even if it means...

    Airing Cupboard Stop Cock Confusion

My guess is that the 22mm into bathroom is the bath tap cold supply with the valve stuck and that the other valve in the loft that you mention controls a cold supply to the taps and WC cisterns or possibly is a central heating circuit supply. What becomes shut off when they are turned off? The...

    Toilet fitting query

The connector has an external rubber seal to go into the soil pipe and an internal seal to receive the pan outlet or ( extension). There is also a space saver connector that may be even more help than a swan neck.

    Toilet fitting query

Have a look at a swan neck. Fits between pan horizontal and vertical soil. Do you have to use the flexi or is the top of the soil near enough to fit a connector ?
