    Shower cable size question

Thanks again for the comments!! Can an RCD be fitted to an old CU? i'm now having doubts when i was at first so confident :( The big problem we face is cost, and fitting a new consumer unit is not within our budget at the moment, so is it possible to fit this shower safely with the...

    Shower cable size question

There was an electric shower in our house when we moved in (unknown rating) but we have an old consumer unit and it was running on a 30a fuse and we had no problems at all in the 2 years we had it. Also, just to satisfy my curiosity, wouldn't the fuse just blow if the current was too high...

    Gate valve as stopcock?

Doesn't a genuine stopcock also act as a non return valve to prevent back syphonage into the main water supply??

    Shower cable size question

Hi Apologies if this has been covered many times. I'm fitting a triton shower at my girlfriends (i think it's 8 or 8.5kw) and bought some 10mm cable with a 30a fuse for the consumer box and 45a double pole pull switch. I didn't buy enough cable for the job, but have some 6mm left over...

    Bathroom sink not draining

Where is the basin in relation to everything else? Could be that the waste pipe doesn't have sufficient fall.

    Differences in traps??

Basic question, but was just wondering what the differences were, e.g. why are there specific one's for washing machines/dishwashers/showers etc AND, what is the difference (if any) between a bottle trap and a U or S bend :? Appreciate that its a basic question, but there seems to be a...

    Noisey Combi boiler

We have a Worcester 24cdi boiler, and it is very noisey when in operation (vibration noise). It seems to get quieter if you press on the sides of the boiler. When we moved in a couple of years ago, the Plumber who did the gas safety check said it was the fan, and although wasn't an urgent...

    Chasing pipes into plaster

I'm thinking about installing a mixer shower in my bathroom, and so need to sink the hot/cold pipes into the wall. My question is, will i need to plaster over the pipes before tiling, or will a good helping of tile adhesive followed by the tile do the trick?

^^^^^ Much appreciation for your detailed replies! It has taken me a long time to pluck up the courage to even consider going into people's homes to work, but i plan on fitting it in around my current job to begin with until i have the confidence and more importantly enough work to go part...

    Dishwasher and Washing Machine Plumbing

It depends on 2 things: What the existing plumbing is like i.e. is the pipework already there for a washing machine? The washing machine itself i.e. does it need hot+cold fill, or just cold? Regardless of the above points, it would be an easy job for a decent plumber and wouldn't cost the earth

    Training

I think i've stepped on a few peoples toes here, and i apologise if i have offended anyone! Paul Barker - I had a good read of your post, and i am grateful for your detailed reply. i have taken it all on board and it has opened my eyes somewhat to what i have ahead of me. From here i think i...

    Training

When i said learn, i meant pick up hands on experience. the study side of things, i'm more than happy to do in my spare time. I'm just making a valid point that if a labourer can get £6.50/hr, and i will be doing the same (ok, at first i'll be a bit slow). And, just for the record, i've been...
