    Door entry system handsets

Hi, The handsets are all working, and i would obviously choose an entry panel that can take 6 phones. The main thing is I'd rather not spend too long doing the work and would rather not have to go into every flat and replace the handset. would also save the customers abit too. Assuming i have...

    Door entry system handsets

I've been asked to install a 6 way door entry system as the current one if fluffed. I was wondering whether the handsets already installed are likely to work with another system? I've not had much experience with door entrys.

safety issue with marquee for Christmas do.

Have a butch at special locations in the 17th edition book if you can. Cables must be armoured if the public can get to them And I think, might be wrong, circuits should be on a 30mA RCD. You're probably right about 300 though.

    no seals on cutout

They generally blame electricians for breaking seals, not homeowners. Plus you've only just bought the property. I'd say they definately won't disconnect you. Perhaps you should call them and warn them though.

    Electric cables and loft insulation

What sort of insulation is it? If its fairly rigid stuff like celotex, you can cut sort of chases in it for the cables, providing the cables are clipped down and you make generous trenches it should be OK.

    Calibrating test equipment

Should it cost the same to get my loop, rcd and insulation continuity tester calibrated as it would cost to get an MFT done? Has any one any reccomendations for a company to do it? Cheers

What makes the difference between a 16th and 17th edition test kit? is it to do with the rcd tester instrument?

    Old sockets

Thats a bit of a grey area, but I'd say technically you can't really do it, as it's not changing something like for like, plus it's in a kitchen. Probably better if one the sparks answers that for you though.

    Heatshrinkin'

Normally if I've had to make crimp connections I'd use either some heatshrink, or cold shrink and amalgamate, but recently a couple of sparks have said they prefer not too as it blankets cables too much. whats peoples thoughts on this?
