    Shower valve query

Ok, but why? Seems like more work than simply going under and up. Luckily the pipes can run along under the floor parallel to the joists so no notching out or drilling holes required.

    Shower valve query

Sadly not in our situation. We can’t get to the attic space in this part of the house as it was added on to the original way back in the day. The house was built in 1901 with double brick outer walls (no cavity), so there’d also be a concern about the pipes freezing, especially as there’d be no...

    Shower valve query

Sorry, I meant I do have a cavity, but not enough depth in the cavity for a hidden valve which usually need 75-95mm. Hence the need to have a surface mounted valve. Pipe work will be fine to run down cavity wall under shower tray/floorboards then back up the other side of a newly built stud wall...

    Shower valve query

Hi all, So I need to install a shower valve but on the opposite side to to the shower head and diverter. Was looking at the recessed ones but don’t think I’ve got enough cavity to house one. I have a mixer bar in my en suite, but it’s on the same side as the heads as the flexi hose just comes...

2sqm electric underfloor heating for bathroom

Hi all, so, i've approx 1.5-2sqm of floor to heat up in the bathroom. I'm replacing the rotting floorboards with 18mm green t&g chipboard floor panels. What's the most appropriate heating matting to use and how would i prepare the floor considering i'd like to top it off with karndean, amtico...

    9sqm kitchen floor needs levelling

Thanks for confirming. The only tiles left are small remnants that just won’t budge, so I’d imagine they’ll never come loose. I’ll brush, mop and vacuum the floor prior to applying either the stopgap 1200 pro or Ardex NA. Those 2 seem to be the most popular choice for my project.

    9sqm kitchen floor needs levelling

No, but again (excuse my niaivety) isn’t that was the 1200 pro is for, to apply to damp floors? According to the wording on fballs website it is.

    9sqm kitchen floor needs levelling

seriously?! There’s no chance that digging up the floor is happening. From everything I’ve read today the fball and Ardex stuff are designed for situations like mine. There’s no damp in the floor. Why would I need a primer after the dpm and before the ardex na?

    9sqm kitchen floor needs levelling

here are the pics of the kitchen with multiple substrates to go over and the reception room that it flowed into (not having a door) with approx 20mm thick tiles and areas of solid painted concrete. Note there is salt coming through in some areas (under the desk mainly) but the previous guy who...

    9sqm kitchen floor needs levelling

So, FBall 1200 first, then the F77 dpm? Then anything on top after that? I'd be putting electric heating mats down that will need level compound on top I guess prior to using vinyl planking (Karndean, Amtico etc)? Not only am I wanting to save money, but actually enjoy learning new stuff. I've...

    9sqm kitchen floor needs levelling

Hi all, So I need to level 9sqm of a kitchen that also flows through to a 19sqm reception room. Now, the kitchen starts off concrete, then goes to those ancient vinyl type tiles on what looks like a bitumen base (I’ve scraped most of these off now), then an open archway into the reception which...

Bond and skim, or dot and dab?

Back again. So, I’ve decided to have a go at rendering the wall. (What’s the worst that would happen? ) Having seen the pics posted previously and consider that some parts of the wall will need building up more than others, would you go for sand and cement render or drywall? What prepr would you...

Bond and skim, or dot and dab?

aaah, most plumbers i know use plastic where it won't be seen and copper where it will.

Bond and skim, or dot and dab?

Ok, so the wall is mostly back to brick now. Oh the joys of ancient electrical work. Safe zones? Wth are they? There are so many potholes, I’m wondering if rendering might be better? Or at least some cement based gear? I now don’t think that d&d will work. I’d have to pack the low points out...

Bond and skim, or dot and dab?

I guess if I d&d I could gauge where the wall units will go, mark the positions on the wall and then ensure that I put adhesive at those points? Just ordered a 1200mm feather edge and will be getting a speedskim too. In my diy experience (and being my own worst critic) I’ve had some great...
