Hot water being back flowing into Cold water tank

If your cold water tank is backfilling the water must somehow be coming from the cold water main. It could be directly through a mixer tap or shower in which case you would hear water running through the pipework even if all the taps were turned off. It could also be indirectly by central...

Hot water being back flowing into Cold water tank

It is back filling quite fast. Does the feed and expansion tank keep topping itself up while this happens

Gas smell from boiler when it switches off.

If there is a gas escape downstream of the meter with a detectable smell of gas I would classify the relevant appliance as Immediately Dangerous regardless of whether or not the smell dispersed. It means your boiler has had 2 serious faults in a short while. Sorry but I would leave it turned off.

    Poly tank life

I've always thought anything made of heavy duty plastic will be around long after I've gone though I'm getting on a bit now. Check the tanks aren't stretched and were well supported. You cannot just change a hot cylinder any more. You have to be qualified and the new cylinder needs a certificate.

Ventilation requirements for two dfe fires in one room

In certain circumstances it can be relevant to consider whether the room was originally 2 rooms knocked into one for ventilation purposes.

Ventilation requirements for two dfe fires in one room

Remember MIs are important here. And fire regs. Probably building regs too. And consideration of draughts. Perhaps start by looking in the MIs of a dfe fire.

    Salus RT500 issue please help

No my advice will not work for the BC model. Only the RF model. There are no levers only jumpers to pull out. The instructions have been kindly supplied above.

    Salus RT500 issue please help

It is straightforward to change the settings provided you can access the right place on the transmitter and the receiver. You will have 5 little pins or jumpers in a line on one (probably all in place) and 5 little levers in a line on the other (probably all up). Imagine the chap next door has...

    Combi Boiler System Cleaning/Flushing.

Yes that makes sense as the heating is on and there will not be any back flow. However Isnt there a problem that some of the gunge from the radiator will be pumped past the drain off for one or two circuits at least and be forced through the heat exchanger of the boiler.

    Combi Boiler System Cleaning/Flushing.

gigz I'm trying to get my head around your flushing idea. Why doesn't the water run straight out the drain off without going around the radiator?

    Salus RT500 issue please help

I must be the only person in the world who likes Salus RT500. Apart from interference with other signals - where you can reset the frequency quite easily - and cheap batteries I have never had any issues.

    Right angled bath tap

Thanks John. A bib tap it must be. Like the gold ones at the top but in silver. I assume the thread is correct. I'll start having a look through the catalogues.

    Right angled bath tap

Hi My friend has a cast iron bath with tap holes in the sides instead of the edge. The existing chrome taps - which are broken - are shaped similar to an outside tap but with normal 22mm male threads for the water pipes. Does anyone know where new taps can be obtained?

    Dizzy gas

Common sense should prevail. Someone needs to get to the gas meter asp and turn the gas off. Sort out the consequences later.

    Public Liabilty Insurance

There are a lot of variables eg tools, van, gas work, etc. Best to ring a company like Direct Line to get a quote for your circumstances. Just wondering. When workers retire do they maintain their insurance in case there is any comeback from old customers?

    Radiator Extension Tails

Hi Many radiators now have a rubber seal on the blanking nut and bleed valve. Is the extendable tail seal different to this?

    Hot water system problem

A neighbour has an old Rolyat hot water cylinder in her upstairs airing cupboard. It must date back to the 50’s. It is like a cuboid primatic cylinder with a water tank fitted to the top. It is now heated by immersion but originally was heated by a back boiler. The back boiler has been...
