Adding a new light to a 3 plate circuit

Hi all. I'm in the process of trying to add a new down light to our bedroom and I want to run it off the same switch as the only other ceiling light which is a pendant wired the old way as a 3 plate. In my first attempt I thought I'd located the supply wire so i used a junction box to wire it...

Having a go at turfing garden

Ok. A bit of technique to minimise back ache. You will need: An old hand saw, strong contractors rake, enough walking boards (planks) to get you to the far side of the lawn area - even if you have to hop. Start in a corner and create a perimeter of lawn by rolling out the turf, one by one in the...

    Honda Izy mower

Update. I checked for play on the drive side with the blade still mounted. There is movement and it feels like more than it should be. I then fired it up with the intention of mowing the grass and it sounds dreadful all the time now. Its vibrating itself to pieces so I think its terminal. I...

Having a go at turfing garden

Are you laying the turf yourself or having a landscaper do it? If the former, try to swap the compost for wickes own topsoil 4 for £10 25 litres. Without seeing it I couldn't say how much you need but 4 bags won't go far at all. If a landscaper is doing it just ask them to bring a loose ton of...

    Honda Izy mower

So far as I can tell the deck is in good condition - only one small patch of corrosion far away from the mounting points of the engine. I'm yet to check for play in the blade end but the flywheel side seemed good. I usually check the balance after sharpening the blade. Thanks for all your replies

Having a go at turfing garden

I'm afraid the cliche rings true with lawns among other things, it's all in the preparation. Of course it really depends on how good you want it to be but now you've begun the process you may as well do it once and do it right. Of course, you could always consider doing all the prep and then...

Having a go at turfing garden

90% of the complaints I've heard about lawns comes down to unreliable sub soil. It usually comes down to what the builders or diyers left behind after the build or projects. If you haven't done so already hire a decent rotavator. They are a bit pricey but shop around and get it delivered unless...

    Honda Izy mower

I've not changed the cord length or tinkered with the starter system at all. I know the sound you mean - the starter pawls clicking past the vanes on the flywheel. Its not that. Its much more clunky and metallic. Its probably best if I try to upload a sound clip. In the process of messing around...

    Honda Izy mower

It belonged to my partners ex so I've only been responsible for it for 10 years and 4 oil changes. I checked the level and condition of the oil and it appears fine.

    Honda Izy mower

As we are getting towards the end of the season I might nurse it through to winter and pass it on to my father who is retired and would love a challenge. I looked at the contacts for the ignition and they didn't look too bad for a 14 year old mower. Thanks for your help.(y) Mark

    Honda Izy mower

Ok. I checked the blade. Secure. Took off the plastic housing for the recoil and fuel assy. Nothing loose or bent. Started the mower with fuel assy still out of the way. Same noise on start and stop. I'm on my own at the moment so cant get close enough to locate the sound better. It does run a...

    Honda Izy mower

Thanks for your reply. There is no button, there is a lever which looks almost the same as the dead man's switch. I've had a brief look at the blade but will try again after dinner. It almost sounds like its coming from the starter recoil area and the flywheel. I understand what you mean about...

    Honda Izy mower

My old faithful mower has developed a worrying clatter at low revs during start up and shut down. I've checked the engine oil level and looked for any loose screws under the deck and around the housing but I cant help think its coming from the engine. Any thoughts?

Having a go at turfing garden

What he said Any stones or debris bigger than 1 inch should be removed. Invest in a couple of decent contractor rakes from a merchant - you can always sell one afterwards. B&Q rakes will not be strong enough to get a good level after doing the penguin shuffle.

Newly laid turf not as expected....

If left too long a new, well watered lawn will go to seed very quickly. Once this happens the grass dies in those areas to allow the seeds to do their thing. This is why you have small areas of yellowing lawn. Its nothing to worry about and will grow back soundly next season. Advice for new...

12v circuit switch for 240v fan

Thanks John, As its for a bathroom, I only really want the fan on when there is excess moisture in the air from shower use. It would soon annoy/get expensive if the fan came on every time the light was switched on. I'll pop out and get the job done without further delay. Regards

12v circuit switch for 240v fan

thanks to everyone for your prompt replies. John has it nailed in what I appear to have been unable to articulate. I just needed the switch to act as a trigger. Even in my ignorance I was sure no bangs would ensue. I thought it wise to seek advice before bothering a sparky and shall refrain...

12v circuit switch for 240v fan

The 12v switch is after the driver 240v > LED Driver > 12v switch ------ 2x LED 5w bulbs I wanted the switch to be 12v for safety reasons The fan will have its own 240v supply I just wondered if the fan will switch on safely using the same circuit. Probably no harm in trying!?

12v circuit switch for 240v fan

Hi, Electronics novice but I have managed to wire in a 12v vanity LED light circuit in my bathroom. It is from a 12v 15W (Max) driver which is housed inside a boxed in cabinet space. The light circuit uses a standard wall switch. I've just had to replace a humidity activated extractor fan...
