Never, but i have a single back box also plastic which does have a gold screw, that's were it threw me.

Excellent thanks, i wasn't 100% as i've read you must earth the back box if using a chrome socket.

I bought a dry lining box but it has no earth screw, but the chrome socket needs to be plugged to one, or is this for only metal back boxes? Thanks, and if it does is there something i can use instead?

Yes iit's gotta be you rewired the switch wrong. I would put them on all switches, very easy to do and only cost you a few quid.
