    PVC cleaners.

I always use solvent, much better than the cream cleaners i have found. Some may claim it takes the sheen off the white surface, but i've never found any problem with it.

    Bow Windows

Don't bother with the poles. Ask for the frame heights to be reinforced, screw the frames together, foam the gaps and cover with flexi angle trim. This way you get less pvc and more glass.

    Glazing a wall 2 m x 2,5 m

I'm pretty sure it's usually 2.5 kg per mm of glass per square metre. So 6mm glass both sides 30kg per square metre. For all the difference the cost would be i would go for warm edge and planitherm with argon gas, that way you are getting the best performing glass without spending over the...

UVPC Door Hinge Adjustment - Quick Question

the small grub screw holds the pin in position, if you want to remove the door sash from the frame remove it. The 2 large screws on the side of the hinge are adjustments left and right. just watch as these are usually really soft metal and will chew if you don't use a proper sized screw bit.

    Condensation nightmare

you could try replacing 1 of the glass units with low e glass, argon filled with warm edged spacer for maximum performance. This should certainly make a big difference, albeit a bit costly if you can't do it yourself. I've changed a houseful recently that had the exact same problem you have had...

howling window please help its driving me insane

it will almost certainly be that there is a part of the mastic seal has came unstuck from the upvc at some part, and the noise is the loose mastic vibrating when the wind blows (it only needs a tiny bit to be really noisy!). Check right round the window, some people use the wrong type of...

    Unable to unlock back door

    Replacement windows in cavity.

the new windows should come with fixing clips that will hammer in to the side of the frame, which you can then screw through to fix to the ingos, then cover with trimming. However i prefer to cut timber blocks and hammer into the cavity and fix through the frame. If you do this put some damp...

    Bedroom WIndow idea

If there is nothing wrong with the window frame just change the unit for one of unequal panes, the best for noise reduction would be 6.8 acoustic laminate and 10mm float - this may be too heavy forn your existing window mind you, but 2 (or 3 if your frame allows) unequal panes of glass is the...

    door handles no springiness

some handles rely on the mechanism for the spring action. Over time these will sag for sure. You should insist on handles with a built in spring to make sure this won't happen. It could be the screws are too tight or the plastic hasn't been routed properly, and the spindle is rubbing on the...

    Uv value of Infill panels

You'd be far better getting the door all glass with planitherm low e and warm edge spacer. We got a letter from one of our door panel suppliers saying pretty much that any panel we get from them with 9mm MDF reinforcing in it will give an overall door u value of not much better than 2.0. in some...

Seal Replacement On Opening DG Windows.

ok you've got cockspur handles (no it's not a medical term!) you can replace the "plastic ramps" as you call it for thicker ones that will pull the sash tighter to the frame. this will only effect that side of the window, the tightness of the opposite side relies on the hinges.
