    Double-glazed sash windows

No he means water collects in the frame under which the unit sits on, using glazing packers lets any water run underneath the unit and out drainage holes in the frame.

    Argon filled double glazed windows

Sound like rubbish to me on the candle trick - low e coating is actually a thin metallic film, so that may reflect a different colour rather than an inert invisible gas, it sounds like it would have been argon filled. The kite mark indicates toughened (tempered) glass. The fact there is no plug...

    Argon filled double glazed windows

you can't really check for argon gas, it might be printed on the spacer bar though. You can only check for low e coating, but you need a "merlin" low e detector. If it has that it probably has argon gas.

uPVC sash window - retrofit shark fin restrictors

If you didn't specifically ask for them then asking you for £25 per restrictor isn't too bad, although if they showed you a sample and it had them on you have a good argument. The ones we done we retro fitted them for nothing and basically took it on the chin even though the customer never asked...

    uPVC Door lock sticking

Try lifting the handle up slowly and forcefully as high as it will go, when you're applying pressure to the handle as high as it will go does the key turn more easily? If it does try adjusting the middle hinge so that the latch mechanism moves farther away from the latchplate on the frame. often...

    UPVC Window adjustment

Don't adjust the hinges, take the wedge off and throw it as far away as you can. If it still isn't working properly the glass needs repacked properly, it has dropped.

uPVC sash window - retrofit shark fin restrictors

After supplying a job we had to go out to and retro fit shark fin restrictors to when our customer decided they did in fact want travel restrictors (nightmare to fit after the steel is in the sashes.) Now we fit as standard. They'll need to drill a series of holes through the steel...

A Rated Windows vs B Rated Windows

What you need to understand is that you could have 2 windows, one of them 1000mm wide x 1000mm high. this window is an A rated window. You could also have another window 900mm wide x 900mm high that is identical, this one is a B rated window. Why? because the glass is the most energy efficient...

A Rated Windows vs B Rated Windows

forget about bfrc ratings, they are so misleading. They take into account solar gain (the amount of sunlight that travels through the panes) which depends on so many variables. Stick to the overall u value of the window, which is constant.
